Hi everyone out there!
As you can see in the subject line I will have to make a tough decision within a couple of weeks.
I know there is already a thread CoE vs. Oxford. But my case is slightly different. I'm not so much into competition at all. If I go to Bruges it would be because I'm interested in a career in the EU institutions.
(1) If you wanted to work in an EU institution where would you go?
(2) What about NGOs, other international organisations?
(3) I wonder where to go if in a longterm perspective I wanted to go to practice law in Italy (I am German, with a German law degree). I know the question would be why not get a place in an Italian LLM. But how would you choose if you had to choose among those two LLMs?
Thanx a lot!

Cambridge. Without any doubt and with respect to questions 1, 2 and 3. In my opinion CoE can't be compared with Cambridge.

I hope for you you have made the right choice by now. CoE cannot even be compared to Cambridge: it is not worth even half of it. It is a relatively new university, with no significant history and... character. They don't even help you secure a EU job. Go for Cambridge 100%!

Actually, the CoE has the best networking possibilities and rate of success of entry into the Community institutions. In addition, its reputation amongst Community officials regarding the programme is much better than Cambridge. Cambridge alumni have been known to go to the CoE to increase their knowledge, and chances of success for the institutions.
I would most definitely advise you to go to CoE if access to the institutions is what you are after.

You would still have to go through competitions... CoE won't help you much on that.

Neither will Cambridge.
Once you're through the competition, having a network like that of CoE will definitely improve your chances of lobbying your way in. CoE Alumni are well-known for being willing to help out fellow alumni in these situations, hence their strong presence in the institutions.

Well, then let us all just stay at home...

If you are sure 100% you will go for EU competitions, the choice between the two should be irrelevant, unless you guys know something I don't know...
But if you want to pursue an academic or professional career, Cambridge has an advantage over CoE. No doubt.

Maybe. The question above was about the institutions or international organisations, ergo my answer.

Thx guys for your answers. I've got my mind made up and will be going to Cambridge in October. In the end it might have even been because I just prefere the UK to Belgium.... anyway nowadays I am actually thinking about an academic career, so Cambridge might be a good place to be....

i've done both!!! depends on what you want really.
Cambridge is Cambridge; it is renowed for the name!
CoE is renowed in Brussels and continental euorpe except for the UK.
From my experience the course at CoE was more challenging than my LLM at Cambridge, which was a walk in the park tbh. But you have to decide whether you want to choose the brand name over substance.
I ended up doing both!
