To take the bar exam in the US, with the exception of California, you'll have to get a full JD or the equivalent abroad. I used to work in the bar exam business. Having a law license in China should allow you to sit the bar (as long as you meet a state's qualifications) in one of the few states that allow non-US licensed attorneys to sit their exam. Off the top of my head, Tennessee, California, Michigan or Minnesota (can't recall which), New York and possibly Massachusetts. You shouldn't need a further degree. But, as always, check with the State's bar admissions staff.
Best of luck.

My understanding was that it was not possible to sit the bar exam in NY without a US JD or a LLM from an ABA law school actually taking place in the US. In any event check with the NY Court of Appeal but I do not think that it would be possible with an online LLM...

You may want to follow up via the Comprehensive Bar Guide (2009) for the 56 Bar authorities within the United States, its Commonwealth and Territories.

Several ABA schools now offer online or at least partial online programs, and several more that I have spoken to recently at our last AALS are developing them now.
