Hi all,
Can any body tell me about LLM - Natural resources, Energy & Environemnt Laws at U of Calgary. About the University, How is the program (during the course & after the course), about job prospects, about admission requirements and scholarship facilities etc.
Any ideas on this would be greately appreciated.
Thanks. LEgalIndia.

Well, it is like replying to my own post. But, I don't mind as the information i am posting would be helpful to atleast some of the prospective candidates.
Eventhough I could not get any additional information on the LLM - program and the U of C as such, but in the perspective of job prospects it looks good. As Calgary being the second biggest legal market in Canada after Toronto (the second biggest legal market Vanccour is now being reached saturation, pl correct me if I am wrong as my information on this point is as old as last year) and calgary is the hub for all oil & gas law firms, getting jobs after the program would be easy. I even heard that U of C is also having its alumn representation in some of the law offices located in Toronto. So, if you see from this point, the LLM at U of C looks to be a viable option.

You might want to ask these questions at lawbuzz.ca and lawstudents.ca. Both are sites for people interested in studying law in Canada and people there have a pretty good idea about admission, rankings, strengths and prospects at Canadian schools. This will be less-so when it comes to the LLM because most posters are concerned with just getting into the LLB program, but they might be able to provide some insight on general questions.
It's true that it's not a coincidence that the specialization of this course is located in Calgary, for the reasons you mentioned. Oil & gas law firms are definitely mostly located in Western Canada and Calgary is a flourishing economy in Canada because of the oil in that region. Environmental concerns are on the forefront in that area and a specialization of this kind will likely be useful in Calgary.

Thank you, Poppet.
As suggested by you I will also post this in lawbuzz.ca and lawstudents.ca. I went through some of the boards which had some disccussion about U of C (may be as you said these discussions were on LLB) and I did not see any adverse remarks on U of C when compared to other univs like UBC, UVic, Osgoode etc. (I agree that both U of T and Osgoode have an advantage of being located in Toronto.) However, I could not find any details on this LLM and did not see any feedbacks on this course from the U of C Alumni.
