Hi All,
As part of my first post I'd like to repeat a question that's been asked a zillion times...but that I'm quite interested in.
I hold a Law Degree from the National Autonomous University of Honduras and am a candidate for a masters in Corporate Law and a masters in International Relations and Foreign Commerce.
I also happen to work full time in the Constitutional Room of the Supreme Court of Justice of Honduras, Central America (country party to DR-CAFTA for all those interested in FTAs.)
Knowing that, what requirements are needed to sit for the California, NY, Ill and Texan bar exams? Does an LLM make me eligible to sit for the bar or is any other degree a better bet?
Honestly I do not want to do a JD (the mere thought of it all makes me roll my eyes).
Any thoughts will be appreciated
Laura

Hi Laura
I would assume that Honduras is a civil law country?
If so, I would suggest that you check with the State Bar of California (http://www.calbar.ca.gov/state/calbar/calbar_home.jsp) whether you are eligible to sit the bar exam without a LLM. I know that practicing lawyers can do so even if they qualified in a civil law jurisdiction.
For New York, you can also check with the New York Court of Appeal but my understanding is that you would indeed need a US LLM to sit the NY Bar Exam.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
