University of Melbourne JD admissions

I have recently applied to the University of Melbourne JD program as an international student. I was just wondering if anyone had any insight as to their admissions process or chances of someone with a 3.5 undergrad GPA getting in.

Cheers

I was also curious if anyone else has applied for the February 2009 intake and if they knew the dates for the first "intensive" course that is supposed to take place in Feb. I think it was the Legal Methods and Reasoning course.

Hi

I am actually planning on attending Melbourne for the JD in Feb 2009. I believe the preliminary course starts on Feb 5 and runs for about 2 weeks. Then the actual semester begins in late Feb early March.

I was accepted the the JD with a 3.0 GPA in my BA and a 4.0 GPA for my MA. My LSAT was a mediocre 153. I think my work experience, and personal statement really helped me out. From what I gathered from the school and my contacts at U of M, the admission criteria does not depend on any one factor. It's a combination of LSAT, GPA and your personal statement. Of course you can read all of this on the JD website.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions just PM me.

I'm so glad that someone else on here is going. 5th of Feb is really early. Well thanks for the reply. It's made me feel much better. Now I play the waiting game as I applied for the third round of intakes and that deadline isn't until 5th of Jan. I appreciate your reply. Cheers, and hopefully I'll see you in Melb!

Yes I am an international student but I don't know what IELTS scores are. Both my degrees are from English speaking unis. I don't want to elaborate on my experience and my personal letter here so if you want more details just pm me.
