I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some information.

I am a UK citizen undertaking an LLB Law degree in London.

However, I am planning on migrating to Australia with my Australian partner after graduation. As I understand it, with an LLB I will be exempt from re-sitting certain modules in order to meet the academic requirements needed to qualify as a solicitor in australia.

I have found out from the Australian Law Society website that the modules I will most likely need to sit are Australian Federal and Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Ethics and Property.

I am unsure, however, as to how and where I would complete these missing academic modules. Do I need to enrol at a university in Australia or is it possible to complete these modules online? Also, I am not sure as to the fees applicable.

With regards to the practical elements, my plan is to complete the Practical Professional Course online after I have completed the academic modules, either in Australia or in UK depending on where I can sit the academic modules.

Any information or guidance you could give me would be much appreciated.

I have tried to assist you with the background knowledge I have but a disclaimer would be for you to confirm these information independently!

1. The missing academic modules you have to complete would be with a university in the state you are migrating to. UK graduates generally enrol as a "non-award" student. Essentially, you that the courses required but do not graduate with a degree. Some universities allow their students to fit the subjects they require into a LLM program so students can gain a postgraduate qualification at the same time but only a few selected schools does.

Some universities offer online courses but my advice would be to complete it face-to-face in Australia. Fees applicable would depend from university to university. I would say 1 subject would cost between AU$2500 to AU$4000 as an international student - depends from school to school.

There are several practical legal training providers in Australia and most do them online (i.e. you can do them from home). Some providers would let you do it concurrently when you are completing your academic subjects so it would help you save some time. There is more flexibility in the practical training area because the online nature of the program allows you to study with another university in another state which suits you better. The better providers are College of Law and The Australian National University.

That was a great help, thanks alot.

I have looked at 'non award' courses and that seems the best idea.

I am now thinking of undertaking a summer placement with a law firm whilst completing my missing academic modules and then possibly applying to them for a graduate position and doing my Practical Training with them after the modules are complete.

Hey yeah you will probably have to complete those units as you have not yet been admitted in UK.
