Sydney Law (New JD program)

fes456

Hi,

I will start my masters in international business and law at U SYD in July. It is my understanding that they will start their JD program this year. Does anyone know what the criteria will be to transfer into the program (i.e. minimum lsat scores, etc.)? A second option that I am looking at is to upgrade to an LLM degree. Any thoughts as to whether or not this is a worthwhile endeavor would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

As far as I am aware, no LSAT results are required and only a degree (of a certain merit) is required for entry.

If you are indeed keen to practise law, I would recommend you look into the JD program. I do not think you will be able to "upgrade" to a LLM subsequently given it is restricted to holders of a JD/LLB program. Furthermore, LLM degrees do not entitle holders to practise law.

You should liaise with USyd to discuss your enrolment options this July. Given that JD students would be able to select elective courses from the postgraduate courses, it is likely the subjects you complete this July to November would be credited towards the JD. They will likely ask you to "avoid" enrolling in certain fundamental/basic subjects which cannot be counted towards the JD (but this is only my guess!).

Hope this help!
