I am currently looking for a Ph.D. as I would like to get a teaching job upon completion of the Ph.D. but I don't know how realistic is this? I do not have formal teaching experience and I am from Germany. I would like to know if you think a Ph.D. from Australia could realistically help me to find a teaching job and if so whether it is worth it in Australia or if it would have more worth outside of it.
PhD in Australia

Hello Anika15,
It depends where you intend to settle after your PhD. In Australia a Doctor of Philosophy is not valued as much as in other nations (e.g northern Europe). Intellectualism is more respected or at least less derided in those cultures, too. Keep that in mind when you're making your decisions. Might be worth heading away early.
Though in terms of an academic career, a PhD will add value to wherever you intend to teach.
If you plan to pursue you PhD somewhere else I suggest the US. The US model of doctoral education serves as a reference for several countries, such as Germany, which is promoting institutional and formative adjustments to deliver more structured conditions in their doctoral education programs. An Australian PhD can be shorter than the American doctoral degree by two or three years and usually students dont do as much teaching during their candidature.

I am greatful for your response llmadvise.
I do't intend to settle in Australia after the PhD. Ideally I'd pursue a PhD, teach for a couple of years and then return either to Germany if possible or teach for somemore years in the UK.
