Australia or UK for a European?

I'm considering universities in the UK and Australia for LLM or Master of Business Law/Legal Studies. My concern is how well known Australian universities are outside of Australia. In university rankings ANU, Melbourne and Sydney at least are generally ranked among top European and US universities, but are employers familiar with them?

I'm a business person, and I'm doing the law degree to complement my business background, not to become a lawyer necessarily.

In my opinion, I think it would depend on where you are working or intending to work. If you are going to work in Australia, then a Masters from Australia would be more helpful (same if you are intending to work in the UK then a UK Masters would be more helpful).

In terms of universities, yes, the schools you have mentioned have a good international reputation. Additional ones you may consider are Monash, UNSW and UQ.

I would suggest you look into the JD program offered by Monash University. It is slightly longer in duration compared to a Masters degree but would afford you the flexibility to enter into practice in the future should you decide to do so.

Hopefully this helps!

Cheers,
G

I've asked around a bit and none of the Americans and Europeans (from fairly large international companies) I've asked have heard of any Australian universities, much less about their quality. I'm wondering if it's just the people I asked, or if in general people outside Australia haven't heard of the universities.
