animals ?

Hello,

i'm looking for LL.M. programs in australia. My question has nothing to do with the programs itself.

But I'm quite afraid of the dangerous animals living in australia - especially the venomenos spiders, like funnel web, australian tarantula, red back and so on. What is your all day life like ? Do you get often in contact with those creatures, for example in rooms, houses - and outside on the street ? It's kind of embarrassing to ask this, but it's a a real psychological problem for my decision to go there or not.

i've heard some horror stories involving spiders found randomly chilling in bedrooms, particularly in the melbourne area...as an avowed arachnophobe, you certainly have my empathy!

that said, i haven't actually visited australia and it's quite possible that the said stories were embellished for dramatic effect! do keep asking around!

Yes, living in Australia is a constant struggle between life and death. Fortunately I make sure that my kangaroo's pack-saddle always has some antivenom in there to deal with the funnel web, redbacks and the king brown snake.

Of course, the most deadly australian predator is the drop-bear, the koala's larger, more vicious cousin, which hides in trees and waits for unwary people to pass underneath it. see http://www.cfr.com.au/dropbears/index.html

but if you can brave these terrors, the law degrees are excellent, and so are the beaches and the babes.

if you live in a house with insect screens you should be fine! :)

depends on which university too. If it is near the city etc. then it would be fine - if you are going to "rural" and "outback" areas then perhaps there would be more of those "creatures".

Overall, I think you will be fine.

Drop bears don't even exist

I really wouldn't be worried about spiders...
While Australia does have dangerous animals, most Australians live in highly urban areas with no dangerous animals in sight!
I really would not worry about spiders....especially in Melbourne!
