NUS-LLM 2015/16 applicants

LLM-2015

Hi guys,

Following the post above, I received my offer early morning today for LLM - General. I got rejected for LLM - CFL. Best of luck to those awaiting their offers! Im still crossing my fingers for a scholarship though! :)

Also, does anyone have any idea about what the composition of class is like? And what are the career opportunities in foreign law firms post LLM?

Thanks!

Hi guys,
To all those who have received an offer letter, does everyone's offer letter give a 2 weeks timeline for communicating the scholarship decision or are there different time frames provided? Further, is there anyone in whose offer letter there is no mention of a scholarship at all?
Please do respond

Hey guys!
I haven't yet received any intimation from NUS, the anticipation is kind of killing me !
Would writing a mail to the admission committee help in any way ?
Are there any other CFL applicants who haven't received any intimation?
Thanks.

hi people!

I have a question regarding the scholarship as well.
The offer letter states the same 2 week notification if any scholarship is available, but if in my application I've selected "Self support" under the finance section does that mean I'd be definitely excluded for their merit-based scholarship?
Is there still a slight chance I could be considered for such a merit-based scholarship?

Hi,
I'm in the same boat, but, from what I am aware as per what is stated in their graduate brochure, then all coursework students are automatically considered for a scholarship and there is no need to write a separate letter for the same. So I guess all those who have been or will be offered admission will be automatically considered. Although, I have written them a mail about it a few days back but barring an acknowledgment of the mail, haven't received any further answer

Hi,
In continuation of my earlier post, this is the link I was refereeing to:-
http://law.nus.edu.sg/admissions/pdfs/NUS_Law_GD_%20Brochure.pdf
Further, even in the program website under the link scholarship and fees where all scholarships are provided for briefly at first, there is no mention of providing a one page write up for faculty graduate fellowship although the others briefly described do in fact state so. To clarify, however, where they are explained in detail subsequently, even the aforementioned scholarship provides for writing a one pager and indicating "scholarship" under the heading "source of funds". So apparently, there is a lot of contradiction and self created confusion, adding to which is the statement in the offer letter as regards intimation of scholarship within 2 weeks. So fingers crossed and hope for the best

Mine is the same as yours (2 weeks). I am waiting to see if they grant me one (although my application does say self-support - which makes me very pessimistic). If they do not, I will have to decline their offer (which could be a good thing for anyone on waitlist).

@k818,
The way I see it is that the nomenclature "Source of Funds" in the online Application form with the options "scholarship" or "Self Support" is misleading as construed from a practical perspective the same implies a question as regards the method in which an individual is financing his/her study and therefore the reference to "scholarship" there can only be interpreted to mean any existing scholarship entitling the person to apply to NUS LLM program amongst others and in the absence of the same one would have to choose "Self Support". I fail to understand as to how that nomenclature can imply a question as to whether you are interested in applying for scholarship or not. This is just one of the few contradictions, which contradictions I have already pointed out in my previous posts.
Thus, as a responsible institution the benefit of the same should be given to the students as one of the fundamental contractual principle in common law based systems ( which SG is) that in the case of conflict in a document the inference shall always be against the maker of the document.
Moreover, I've written them a few mails about it and am following up from my end as much as I can, so will let everyone know as soon as I hear anything from them. Hopefully, it will a response which will be beneficial rather than detrimental of dismissive.
Good luck nonetheless

From whatever I have read on this discussion board, and after looking at my offer letter - I believe its safe to assume that the 2 weeks provision is standard - and its not being sent to only those applicants who have requested for financial aid. They would've emailed a standard acceptance letter to all.

Also, the offer letter (in the section on scholarships and financial aid) clearly mentions - "Admission and scholarship decisions are made without reference to financial need." So it looks like its one common pool. Although, I am not very sure if they give any preference/priority to applicants requesting financial aid.
