Dear Friends,
I understand from previous discussions here that New York permits Canadian LL.B. holders to take the state bar. Can anyone share their thoughts on the following questions?
1. All 16 law schools in Canada offer LL.B. / J.D (Toronto and Queen's) programs. Do ALL of them qualify for the NY State Bar?
2. Comparing with a US JD/LL.M holder, are there any additional requirements or procedures for a Canadian LL.B. holder to take the NY State Bar? For example, does the Canadian LL.B holder have to practice a couple of years in Canada before sitting the NY Bar exam? Or is there any foreign education evaluation process involved?
3. Where can I find official information on the above questions? I failed to find relevant info on the website of New York State Board of Law Examiners (http://www.nybarexam.org/), and they do not accept fax or e-mail inquiries.
Many thanks!
