I was just wondering whether anyone knows whether the Nigerian law school accepts a B.A in law or does it have to be a LLB. I have a B.A in Economics, Politics and Law, I have my entrance soliitors exams done in Ireland and I am currently studing a LLM. I have all the stipulated law subjects needed by the Nigerian law society done and I have even done the majority of these topics done twice, once for my undergraduate and then again for my entrance soliitors exams. The only subject I have not done is commercial. I was wondering whether my qualifications would be sufficient in order to enter law school.

Any advice, anyone could give me please would be greatly appreciated.

The requirement is that you have to have a primary law degree. As you may be aware the Nigerian Law School is simply a professional school meant to prepare you for the Bar Exams and call to the Nigerian Bar.

If your B.A was substantially law, 'with a sprinlke of Economics and Politics', you should be sure that you would be admitted. But if it is either Politics or Economics with a sprinkle of law, I don't think you would be admitted. The bottom line is that it has to be a primary law degree. As you may also be aware, whether or not it is called LLB or BA, once your primary law degree was not obtained in Nigeria, you would undergo two programmes at the Nigerian Law School before you qualify for call to the Nigerian Bar - The Bar Part 1 and Bar Part 2 Programmed. These would take two years, plus or minus. Guys with a primary law degree from Nigeria do only the Bar Part 2.

Your LLM, I think, is of no help if you do not have what the Council of Legal Education in Nigeria considers a primary law degree.

Hopefully there will consider it a substantial law degree becuase even though it was a B.A in Economics, Politics and Law.my main focus was on law and I said early I have covered all the subjects stipulated by the law society with the exception of commercial law but I am aware also that not all LLB holders from outside nigeria have covered commercial law too.

I was just was not sure whether they would automatically look at my B.A in law and say I am deem me not eligible because it does not come under the label of a LLB or whether they would actually look at the content and substance of my degree.

Please I just start my LLM,I already finished my LLB LAW,I was just not sure whether I should apply with my LLB or LLM,do they accept student that apply with LLM.
