Hi katrin, I have some friends who did their LLM in Cape Town. As far as I know Stellenbusch is the most oldfashioned one (there are almost only whites and for undergraduates the classes are sometimes taught in Afrikaans). The University of Cape Town has a very good reputation and is also closer to town. I think the University of the Western Cape is also ok but I am not sure.

I have been to the university of Cape town (UCT) -for LLM. I liked it there. I would prefer UCT over Western Cape and Stellenbosch. One reason for this is also the location. It is in town. The spring semester starts in February. Some people I know just wrote a thesis and did not go to class. I would recommend to take classes. Have fun in Cape Town.

I spent 7 years at UCT. Don't worry about the crime. It is there - as it is all over the world - but plenty of people go there all the time without ever being touched by it - myself included. Like the rest of the world, you just learn what not to do. i.e. There are some streets I wouldn't walk down at night. I always felt perfectly safe in my day to day life there.

Hey everybody,
I'm planning to do an LL.M in International Law at UCT in Cape Town/Rondebosch.
Does anyone know if it would really be necessary to buy a car there as busses etc. are not really safe or very rare?
Is Rondebosch that far away from the city centre? Where do most students live in Cape Town?
Well, I also have a dog - would this be a problem in Cape Town? Are there parks for walking?
Thx a lot for helping me!!

I study at UCT, my English is also very bad:) - i understand the lectures, but unfortunately when I start speaking it's awful; so don't worry:)
As for the llm you'd better ask the department you are interested in.
http://www.law.uct.ac.za
Usually the lectures end the end of october and by the middle-end of Nov. the exams are over. the lectures this year started 15. feb; As for master's I don't know when exactly they start, but i think it's about the same time.
good luck
I don't know but if you intend to work here you might have problems with finding job.

Ciao Ninala, I'm from Rome and I'm planning to do an LLM in London.
Where are you from?
If you have opportunities, consider the oldest and most fashionable city in the world.
I don't know about Cape Town llm.

Hey Tortello,
you mean Rome? :-) Unfortunately I don't speak Italian. At the moment I'm also thinking about going to Amsterdam or Stockholm for my LL.M.
By the way - I'm from Germany.

I know that Rome is the most beautiful city in the world but I was suggesting you to go to London as I will...Why did u consider Cape Town? If u are from Germany would'n it be better for you to stay in Europe?

Lit from Johannesburg here. Studied at Univ of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in JHB. UCT is awesome, spent two weeks on squash tour there.Plus, Cape Town's the best city in the world, so even if you're from Germany, why stay in boring old Europe, come to Cape Town or Wits-you'll love it!

hi i am working towards going to cape town for my llm,i believe am going to really enjoy it over there.I was wondering what accomodation is like over the rates and all.

Hi Kasuwa
As far as I've seen, UCT offers great accom for post-graduates, even catering for small families. In terms of prices, think it's quite reasonable. On campus, you'd probably pay about the equivalent of say US$4 000 a year, and that'd include like two/three meals a day etc, so comparing to other Universities worldwide, it's dirt cheap!Alternatively, renting a flat somewhere nearby, which would be self-catering, would be maybe slightly less, but then you'd have to search and see what area you'd like to live in, and obviously rates will vary accordingly. My advice, get accom on campus and enjoy the campus life and the surrounds of CT! Where are you from by the way?

I am afraid I cannot help you with this. I haven't been to South Africa myself; just found the picture of the UCT campus :-)
