The dual degree option is an opportunity for a student to earn two LL.M. degrees upon the completion of 36 credits. The faculty of the University of Houston Law Center is among the largest and most distinguished in the country. Comprised of 43 Tenure and Tenure-Track Faculty, 12 Clinical Faculty who teach in our clinics and first-year legal writing program, an additional 20 full time non-tenure track faculty members, and more than 100 adjunct faculty, UH’s reputation for scholarly and teaching excellence is widely recognized. The Law Center’s highly prolific faculty publish in the leading law reviews in the country and their work has been very influential with commentators, lawyers and courts throughout the country, and the world. The Law Center’s commitment to teaching excellence is equally notable. Since 2001 eight faculty members at the Law Center have won the UH Teaching Excellence Award, the highest university-wide teaching award. Beyond the university, our faculty have been widely recognized for their outstanding teaching.

Applicants who received their law degree in the United States must hold a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.  Applicants must demonstrate their ability to perform satisfactory graduate work as evidenced by high grade-point average or high class rank in law school.  Most U.S. applicants to the University of Houston Law Center have graduated in the upper one-third of their law school classes. 

Lawyers educated in other countries must hold a law degree from an accredited university, or be admitted to practice before the highest court in their jurisdiction. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to perform satisfactory graduate work by presenting evidence of either a high grade-point average or superior class standing at the school where they earned their law degree. A test of English proficiency is required of all applicants who earned a law degree from a country in which English is not the official language, according the university listing found here: http://www.uh.edu/graduate-school/admissions/international-students/english-proficiency/ The Law Center LL.M. program typically requires a score of 100 on the IBT-TOEFL or 7.0 on the IELTS.

Texas residents: $30,064

Non-residents: $41,704

The UHLC is unique in that it houses a financial aid advisor within the Law Center. The advisor services only law students and serves as an extension of the main financial aid department. Law students should correspond with the advisor so that all documents go through the Law Center as this will assist with a more timely and accurate awarding of financial aid. The main campus financial aid office, located in room 120 of the Welcome Center, will assist you in the absence of the Law Center advisor. 

All aid programs funded by federal and state government agencies, sponsoring individuals, or the College may be changed or eliminated at any time.  All financial aid programs and awards are subject to the rules and regulations of the federal and state agencies, the University's Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (OSFA), and the Law Center.

Houston also has the fastest growing economy in the country, and the University of Houston plays a vital role in generating $3 billion for the city every year.

Approximately 6,000 students live in seven distinct housing areas that provide a comprehensive student services program. These areas are managed by full-time, live-in staff members, including professional Residence Life Coordinators, faculty-in-residence and Resident Advisors (student staff). The University of Houston has a variety of dining options to choose from on and off-campus. If you’re on campus then check out our dining halls - Moody Towers or Cougar Woods. Student meal plans are healthy, flexible and affordable. The Student Center Satellite is also home to the largest food court on campus. This is a great place to grab pizza, sushi, halal certified Indian cuisine or a coffee. So stop by with friends after class. UH is also home to the latest trend of outdoor dining by having local food trucks present their fare to our campus.

The UH campus offers both a place to learn and a place to have fun. With everything located within walking distance on campus. UH Cougars enjoy the feeling of a small campus community nestled within the bustling urban city.
