These programmes have been designed in partnership with leading academics and practitioners from the legal profession from Luxembourg and around Europe. The academic focus is on European, transnational and comparative law.

The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF) at the University of Luxembourg offers a unique academic and research environment.
Over 2,700 students are enrolled in three Bachelor, 12 Master and three professional programmes, as well as two Doctoral Schools. Academic staff from 18 different nationalities teach at the Faculty, supported by practitioners from the field, visiting scholars and guest professors. Rooted in Luxembourg but with a European and international outlook, the Faculty counts three research units:
•    Research Unit in Law
•    Luxembourg School of Finance
•    Centre for Research in Economics and Management, including the Luxembourg Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management    (LCL)

Prospective candidates will hold a Bachelor or "Licence" in Law or a similar degree equivalent to 3 years of law studies. Applicants to one of the specialisations should have completed at least 4 years of law studies (240 ECTS) and should have followed specialised courses relevant to the selected specialisation.They must have a good working knowledge in French and English. Candidates having a different but outstanding and equivalent profile will also be considered.

Admission requirements

Two-year LL.M. programme (M1 and M2)

Conditions for admission to the first year (M1)

Applicants who have successfully completed three years of studies amounting to 180 ECTS (typically a Bachelor in law or equivalent studies) are eligible to apply for the common first year of LL.M. studies at the University of Luxembourg (M1). It offers a variety of courses in European and international law from which students may choose in order to prepare for the specific requirements of the second year.

Applications must include a cover letter, CV, copies of diplomas and transcripts, as well as supporting documents showing evidence of the necessary language skills required to follow the bilingual programme (B2 or higher in French and B2 or higher in English). Applicants should also include at least one but a maximum of two letters of recommendation from their referees.

During their first year students choose the specialisation which they would like to pursue during the second year. Admission to the second year is based on the successful completion of the first year (60 ECTS), as well as the results in the first-year classes relevant to their specialisation.

European students:

•  LL.M. joint first year (M1)

Non-European students:

•  LL.M. joint first year (M1)

One-year LL.M. programme (M2)

Conditions for admission to the second year (M2)

Students can enter directly into the second year of an LL.M. programme (M2) with the goal of obtaining an LL.M. degree. This requires the successful completion of four years of studies amounting to 240 ECTS, typically by having obtained a Master degree in law or equivalent studies including courses on European law. Students will be admitted upon decision of an admissions committee.

Applications must include a cover letter, CV, copies of diplomas and transcripts, as well as supporting documents showing evidence of the necessary language skills required to follow the bilingual programme (B2 or higher in French and B2 or higher in English). Applicants should also include at least one but a maximum of two letters of recommendation from their referees (For the Master en Droit Bancaire et Financier Européen, two letters of recommendation must be included).

European students:

Note for incoming international students on a student mobility/exchange programme

The LL.M. programmes at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance allow international students on a student mobility or exchange programme the opportunity to select all of their courses in English. Incoming mobility students can select English courses from different modules, as well combining options from the common first year and the specialised second year. This regulation applies only to visiting students. The Faculty will aim to meet the requirements of the university of origin and the student’s interests.

Fees are 200 Euros per semester for all students.
