Working in Washington DC

GML

Hi guys, I was wondering whether Washington is a favorable legal market for LL.M.s. There are a lot of firms doing international trade/ intl dispute resolution but at the same time, we are not allowed to sit for the bar exam. Can anybody think of how one could convince a law firm to hire you even if you are not admitted in DC? And any thoughts about how to get the DC bar after a few years and after getting the NY bar? If I understand correctly, DC has very tough educational requirements which are not satisfied by an LL.M., does it mean you have to get a JD to succeed in your legal career in Washington or are there any other ways?
I would really appreciate your input
thanks

At my school job fair, I've met a guy who attended Columbia and then worked for a major law firm in Washington during 2 years. However he was admitted to the NY Bar only, not DC ... I will try to contact him to have more info ...

just checked the requirements. the main hurdle for me, as far as I can see, is the years of work experience required.
on another note: I heard that the exam itself is actually considered to be easier than in other states.

Hi GML,

I've read on another thread that you've studied in Paris. Are you French (I am) ? In which university have you finally landed ?

Most lawyers usually just waive into the DC bar after passing another state's bar exam.
