Ms. Trudi Reid told me that most of the professors would select their assistants as late as in June.

Anyone hear anything regarding assistantships?

So far, 470 hits & no posting.
Does this mean nobody (or extremely few) has been offerend an assistantship yet?

Getting anxious myself.... it's been forever. Although I e-mailed a resume about three to four weeks ago and Dean Friel said I was just in time as the selection process was soon beginning.

has anybody heard any news a/b the assistantships?

I heard today from the Grad Tax Office that the resumes are in circulation to the Tax Professors, but that as of today no selections have been made.

did they give an estimate for when decisions would be made? seems like this is taking quite a while.

I just got in the mail a rejection letter. Try waiting this long to find out whether you are even going to UF. The letter states I can file for reconsideration within 30 days. So if they do change their mind, I find out a week before classes start. Cannot operate my business with such a contingency.

UF just announced that due to the current economic woes, all the planned scholarships/assistantships have been canceled.

Looks like July has come and gone without any word.... so unimpressed by this delay.

See below as to what was posted today on the UF Taxation Facebook Page:
FYI to any and all awaiting grad. assistantships (both as teaching assistantships and FL Tax Journal positions) - after speaking with both Jan and Trudi, here's what I gathered:
1. The vast majority of them (according to Jan by way of Prof. Friel; Trudi does not handle this) have been awarded. Surprise! There "may be a few left upon entering UF", but if you haven't had a heads up from a professor, you didn't get one.
2. If you were awaiting them, get on the financial aid website and approve those loans!
I respectfully recommended to the office that they get themeselves together and formalize some sort of notification to the entering class, because it seems like we were all kept in the dark about this, had no sense of a timeline, and for those of us ineligible for the academic common market / coming from other countries, the hope of FL tuition and stipend has become another $20K to borrow. Hopefully the drinks are free at orientation! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
