Hi All
I am lawyer from India, been working for some three years. I want to do LL.M. from US universities, but it seems way too much costly to fund the studies and recouping the costs later would be too much of a cost. (but I know the experience and exposure is worth every penny :-)). Anyway, so while I was researching about LL.M., I came across summer programs which provide an insight about US laws and legal english. But it seems they are more for pre-llm students.
I would very much appreciate your thoughts, is it worth taking the summer programs offered by US universities (the best I feel is at UC Davis)? Even in a scenario, where I do not see myself doing an LL.M. in future?
Many thanks and regards
SnS

Hi, if you already have a job in your country and really would like to study US legal system you should consider Berkeley Law LLM Professional Track.
This program takes place in two summer terms of 9 or 12 weeks each (up to you) for 3 or 4 quarter per term and Berkeley do have scholarships for Asian countries.
This is not a program for pre-LLM students or some kind of short LLM, this a real LLM you will have the same number of credits requirement, some hours of class as the Traditional Track but it is more intensive. For example, you will study a subject for three weeks having class every day monday to friday for 3 hours / 3 hours and half a day, one day break for study review and then exam.

You may want to be careful about these Summer LLM programs. If you have any future plans to sit for the New York bar exam you should be aware that a Summer LLM program will NOT qualify you to sit for the New York bar exam. New York requires foreign educated bar exam applicants to take an LLM degree that was earned through a full academic year. The LLM must consist of a minimum of 24 credits, of which, no more than 4 may be earned during summer terms. You should review the requirements at www.nybarexam.org.
