I'm waitlisted for the LL.M. in Securities and Financial Regulation. I'm a domestic 3L with no professional experience in this area, so needless to say I was pleased to be waitlisted. Well, I work for Alan Palmiter, who wrote the E&E in this area. But no firm experience - though I'll say that my work with Palmiter has been invaluable.
Here's the rub: this is REALLY what I want to do. Naive as I may be, I gave up a general litigation offer this fall because the firm didn't have a practice in this area.
So, I'm applying to other programs and waiting this out. I fully realize that I may not get into G'town, and, as it stands, I'll probably go elsewhere if I get in (BU is my second choice, I think). But, if I could find a job in this area... even a low-paying, part-time gig, I'd take it and wait tables to make up the difference. I was a pretty good bartender at one point...
If anyone has any thoughts/advice, I'd love to have it!

What are your stats?

I applied on the early deadline date, so if I were you I don't think I would be surprised that I hadn't heard anything.
Top 25% at a Top 50 school. Undergrad in English. The usual resume stuff - research assistant, journal editor, trial team, etc. Nothing spectacular at all. If I had to guess, it was my personal statement and work with Palmiter that got me this far.
Are you a 3L too?

Cool, thanks.
Yes, I'm also a domestic 3L. Like you, this is the field I want to work in.

Do you have practical experience? I know this is something the site said they were looking for relevant post-JD legal work experience...

I'll PM you.

I too am on the waitlist for the GT Sec and Fin Reg LLM. Top 33% at a T1 school. Great recs. Undergrad in finance. Private sector securities law and SEC work experience in securities during law school. I'm the same way...want to do this work more than anything in the world. I suppose its a waiting game from here on out...

How in the world did I get on this waitlist? At least now I can imagine where I must stand!
Either of you applying elsewhere?

No. I'm only interested in GT's program because, well, its an exclusive securities program, and its in DC where the SEC and other regulatory have their main offices.
