NYU, CLS or UChicago

Magnus777

Dear all,

I gained admission to NYU, CLS and UChicago.
The deadline to accept their offer is approaching (April, 15)

Which one would you choose and why?

My field of interest is corporate law. I am a European law graduate aiming to find a position in London upon receiving my LLM degree. At the moment I am leaning towards UChicago and CLS although I might still reconsider and eventually choose NYU.

I recently understood that most of the classes held at NYU are for LLMs only why at UChicago and CLS LLMs share classes with JDs. Can anyone confirm this?

Any help would be more than welcome. I am very confused at the moment.

Thanks in advance.

M.

Columbia for corporate, for sure! Did you take a look at the subjects offered by each university?
NYU is improving its program, but I believe that Columbia is still the best one. UChicago is too "general".

Definitely go to Columbia. Among these three universities its program is the best place for corporate lawyers

Definitely do not go to NYU. Columbia has a better brand name than UChicago. I have the impression that UChicago has better placement for LLMs in top London law firms (either British or American).

You cannot go wrong on any choice you make, both are excellent schools. UChicago and CLS have access to the same LLM job fair in NY together with HLS, SLS and YLS.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Do you know the CLS faculty to students ratio as opposed to Chicago? I am afraid that at Columbia it is harder to connect with professors.

Also, why do you think Chicago LLM graduates have better placement than CLS LLMs?

Do you think it is nearly impossible to find a position in UK? I am not from the UK.

If your corporate interest is connected to Competition Law, Chicago will be better. If not, Columbia might be a better option. Both are wonderful and have the same position in the general ranking.

I would say that Columbia has a slight advantage regarding networking connections.
