NYC housing?

Hi guys, I'm almost positve I'll be enrolling to Cardozo and I was wondering if there is somewhere I can start looking for housing outside campus. I cant afford 2000+ usd per month and I've been told that craigslist isn't all that reliable.
What options are you managing?

financial aid, mainly. plus, they have a very cool joint-programme with The New School that goes with my profile as a lawyer.

I live 40 min to NYC, you can try Zillow.
