LLM personal letter

bubz

Hi guys!

I'm going through the LLM application process. As you all know we have to do a personal letter outlining why we want to study at a particular university with our credentials.

Can anyone direct me to any precedents for this? Or can anyone send me a rough copy of theirs ( you can just send me a PM on here) I just need some sort of guide to get me started.

I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!

Hey, I can just give you some general advice - make sure it is focussed and has a logical flow to it. Don't just list everything you have done. Mention one or two things and how they relate to what you intend to do in the future. Good luck

Hi,

Try not to repeat what is in your CV too.

Maybe mention a professor you want to work with, research interest and what areas you excelled in at Law School ( make sure these are all related). Keep a narrow focus.

Tacking on to everyone else's insightful remarks -- I would also indicate why you are intersested in the particular program you are applying to. For example, if you are applying to an LLM Tax program, you would want to explain to the admissions committee why you are interested in tax law. I think alot of applicants make the mistake of saying that they are going to the program because they got laid off from their job or didn't receive an offer after their summer associate position. I have to believe that the admissions committee wants to admit students who are motivated to do well in the school's program. Best of luck to you.
