I have applied this year and what I know is that a lot of American people I know told me that U. of Arizona is a very good school. Also that Boris Kozolchyk is an excellent professor in International trade law issues. Also I was told that Tucson is a great city (I was told all this by a guy from tucson who went to U. Of Arizona but he is not a lawyer). Ok I hope this could be helpful.

Thanks for the info, but this llm is only open to lawyers is it not? I also heard that Tuscon is great, the people are nice too.I would like to know Arizona's ranking in this llm comparing to other university like UC Davis, or Texas Unversity that offer the same type of llm in Internatioinal Trade?

Arizona is a school with a good regional reputation. Itâs ranked 43rd by US News and 40th by Brian Lighter. Arizona does not have any *star* professors in international law, and is not ranked among the top 20 in this category.
Donât confuse U of Arizona with either UC Davis or U Texas!
UC Davis is a better school than Arizona, although itâs also quite regional. U of Texas (Austin), on the other hand, is an elite university with a strong national reputation. Brian Lighter ranks its professors 6th in the country in international law.
That having been said, this is only an indication of the quality and reputation of the school ⦠it doesnât reflect if their program is right for you! There are many other factors to consider besides these.

Hey Sophie there is no LLM in international trade law at UT Austin, and Davis is a good school too. LLM's are usually for lawyer but that does not mean that you can not be in touch with the director of the program and tell him about your background and see if you can be part of the LLM. Regarding the U.S. news ranking its is not a scientific way of measuring quality at all!, in fact I think it does not tell you what school is good for you. The other ranking ( leiter ) is more accurate but ho knows really?. The best thing to do is to e-mail people and be in touch with people that took the LLM program and see if it I suitable for you . U. of Arizona Tucson is a national University ( I know people from Chicago that studied there). And about the professor it is not true that there are no good professor in international law David Gantz and Boris Kosolschik are great professors well known all over the world ( The ranking ?? what is a ranking when you know the professors work in your daily practice in a law firm.). Anyway UTexas at Austin is better than Arizona in my opinion but UT Austin LLM is general not focused in international trade law

Thank you for your insights. I'm more interested in International Trade law, but since i know U Texas organises a concentration in International Trade, i wanted to know their ranking one towards the other. Indeed UC Davis has great reputation, and in Arizona, Gantz and Kosolschik are quite known.
By the way, some people suggested me that if i plan on doing the llm, i might as well take the bar exam afterwards in one of the States that organises the possbility for foreign lawyers to pass the bar exam.
Is it judicious, and what are the chance of success? Do i have to take more US law courses during my llm and/or after? How does it work?
See you....

Well first of all let me tell you that I applied to UT Austin this year and that I was accepted, but I am still waiting for Arizona and The George Washington University.
UT Austin offers concentrations but it does not offer an specific designed LLM in International trade Law. If I am accepted in Arizona I will have to make a choice . Bar exams depends on each state ( For example you can not take the bar exam in Arizona but you can take it in New York ) I have no idea about Texas. But check the Texas bar web page . If you study you can certainly pass the bar exam ( like any other exam). If you are planning to take the bar exam maybe it will be helpful for you to take the core JD courses as part as your LLM instead of focusing in one specific area of law.
I will focus in Intellectual Property ( even inside the International Trade Law program if I am accepted in it) So if I take the bar exam I will have to study a lot of other âcommonâ US law issues.

Hello migre & bonobo,
I have learned that there is 11 states that organise the bar exam for foreign lawyers, i know only three of them, California, Chicago and New York. By any guess would you know more about this, i've been checking the ABA website, but they have restrictions on entry. I' ll be checking the Texas bar website this w-end, see you...

Woo! Iâm with you on that Sophie! Word of caution tho: 11 states may permit foreign lawyers to take the bar, I dont know the exact number, but I do know that many of these states require that your LL.B. degree was completed in a common law jurisdiction. If you come from a civil law background like I do (Mexico, represent!), you will have less options. I never really looked into this very carefully because I always had my heart set on the California bar which has very easy requirements.
Peace out!
Peace out!
