hi erkan
i am really sorry for not writing in full words.
my only question is that i have done my law from india and our law system is entirely based on the british common law,so which llm should i prefer the ones offered in the states or the u.k.???
as i will be applyin for next year intake,,should i apply to both u.s. and u.k. universities??and which are the best universities i should apply to and keeping in mind the scholarships and the funding i can get,,my prefrence would be specialising in commercial laws or ipr or arbitration.
and which is better bcl at oxford or llm at cambridge as there is lot of difference in their fees,,is extra bucks at oxford worth it?

Hi!
In my view u shld go for the subject search rather that going for college brand search..dat wud realy help.
wat i realy mean is..its is important to realise wat is the best d college is providing........like dere r colleges which hve exceptionaly gud faculty for a certain subject....not al colleges have exceptionaly gud faculty for each subject it provides for.
example many ppl and many lawyers feel that oxford n cambridge are best for theoritical subjects like jurisprudence and criminal law
while queen marry is seen as the hub for IPR in UK, so obviosly its seen as having one of the best IPR faculty
Then there r places like Cardiff, though tey arnt in the top rated list but stil is one of the best 15 or 20 list known to have low student teacher ratio and seen as the 2nd best university in legal research..so obviosly the quality of faculty they wud provide for is one of the best...atleast equaly best, its also prefered cuz its less expensive..but it does give u better exposure.
then univ like UCL, has a lot of value in India..if u wud hve realised most of r (Indian) CJI's n various other judges and also justices from al over the world hve generaly been UCL alumini dat even includes mahatma gandhi n rabinder nath tagore....so cumming back wid ucl deg does has a better edge...
wat i feel after talkin to alumini of varios UK and US universities is dat everything boils down to ur country, ur subject, student teacher ratio, n expense
also a lot of ppl hve written in their posts to LLM Guide queries dat most ot the top rated colleges n universities are jus surviving on their old esteem n reputation built in past
bout the course i feel going for LLM n then BVC is a better combo rather than BCL.......obviosly every1 sees things wid their own perspective but being from 3generational law background wat i found is tat univ. brand does matter but more or less al collges r going to teach more or less the same n gve u d same exposure.......its like being a topper fron 5th best university or an average student from the top no.1 univ.

If you are looking for a job in the country where you earn your LLM, I would prefer UK to US considering you are from India.
In the US, it is almost impossible to get a job as a foreign attorney right now. Some LLMs get one year jobs at international law firms in New York after finishing their studies, but that's usually just to prepare them for working in an office of the respective firm in their own country.
In the UK, getting a job is currently very difficult as well. Generally, some lawyers from India do get jobs at City law firms after their LLM.
Besides Oxbridge, UCL, KCL, LSE are the best brands if you want to find a job in London.
Here are some sweet and sour discussions that may be of help:
