LL.M to JD chances of admission

Hello everyone.

Will having an LL.M be an advantage in getting acceptance fom a JD program? I am well-aware that LSAT score here is very important. However, I would like to know if there are two candidates, one with a bachelor's and the other having that plus an LL.M. will she have a better chance of getting admitted into the JD program?

Thank you all.

I talked to our admissions office a little bit about this, and I don't think it really matters, unless it is from a really great school and/or you got really good grades there to jack up your "GPA" or something like that. But it might help if you apply for a JD at the same school you got your LLM, because professors/deans/admission will know you. I think main key is GPA and LSAT. That is at least what I got out of the discussion.

I graduated from Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of law( Top Tier, Ranked 46th) with a LL.M.

In our Law School if you have a G.P.A above 3.00, you can automatically gain admission to the J.D. Program and you can complete your J.D. in 2 years. LSAT is waived. However, the catch is that you need to have a LL.M. from SMU.

I think some other law schools allow their LL.M. students to transfer to the J.D. Program, if you have a good G.P.A in your LL.M.
