I would like to know what do you think about the letters of recommendation written by alumni who know well the applicant. Are useful in general?

I have used (and continue) to use successful alumni. I think it's a good idea. Depending on the kind of relationship I have with the person, I often request to see a copy (I ask politely). I know those letters are suppose to be confidential but I simply don't like surprises.
Just my $0.02!

Hi there,
my employer is an alumni from NWU so am taking all my recos from him , but he suggested that I take recos from other alumni I know personally for the specific schools..........is that alright? Also should the letter be addressed to someone specific or should only addressed to the dean and sent to the graduate admissions office? please help!

He's right.
I bypassed the graduate admissions office and dealt directly with the admission folks at the School of Law. It seems like such a long time ago...i hope others can chime in.....

Thank you bardiva for your advise! I have colleagues in the law firm where I am working who are alumni of top law schools and I am trying to use their recommendations. I just wanted to know if it has been useful for other people.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
