Letter of acceptance

Mike007

Hi!

I just got an offer from Duke. However they want me to send them a letter of acceptance by February 20. I applied at a couple of other law schools from which I don't expect to get an answer before February 20. I want to keep my options, but I don't want to mess with Duke's offer either.

Hence I would like to know how binding a letter (by which I am accepting Duke's offer) would be if I decided not to go to Duke? What would my obligations be (payment of tution, etc.).

Thanks you for you answers.

You'll have to pay 500$ when you accept, so you'll lose that.

Just mail them to say that you would like to think about it for a little longer because you have other applications,...

I did the same thing and got until the end of April :)

I'm in your same position, although I've recently been accepted also at Northwestern... so, I've time till early April to save a spot in their program. In conclusion, I'm pretty sure I'll give up my spot at Duke

May I ask why do you prefer NW over Duke?

Sure you can. I'd rather attend NU 'cause of its location, ranking, name, and - foremost - 'cause its program (in international human rights) is run by former ambassadors and diplomats...

Just to make sure I understand: If I accept and decide to go to another law school in April, I "only" lose the $500 deposit? No further obligations, penalties, etc.?

probably blacklisted for life..lol. i am joking. it wouldn't leave a good impression thats all (but most people do that anyway - doesnt make it right!)

i think the rest are right though, only 500 deposit is forfeited.
