Hi all, I hope you are all glad with the universities you have been admitted!
My question is: does some of you, French applicant, (future LL.M.s) have already the C.R.F.P.A. or C.A.P.A. (French Bar) and what are your plans if, like me, you haven't already taken this exam??
Let's suppose that we will finish our LL.M. in around mid June 2007, then , for some of us, take the NY/Cal Bar in July. The problem is that the C.R.F.P.A. will be in september, so we won't have much time to prepare it...We will therefore, in 2007, have an excellent resumé, but... without the possibility to practice law in our country!
Some of you know what to do?
What to do?
Important : To french applicants

Hi Geoff,
I'm French too and I will go to Cornell too ... I passed the CAPA last december, as "Jean Patrick". If you pass the NY Bar, you have the article 100 of the Règlement Intérieur that allows you to be registered to the Paris Bar, without passing the CRFPA. The date issue would be solved.

Hi Michael, Jp and Geoff,
I am also a french applicant who have been admitted to Cornell. But I think that I will probably choose Georgetown.
Why did you choose Cornell ?
What other universities did you apply to ?

Hi Nathan,
I've also been admitted to Georgetown but I'll go to Cornell because I have the feeling it has more prestige in France. However, in both cases you can't go wrong (all the Georgetown LLM alumni have been placed in major firms in France : David Polk, Cleary Gottlieb for example).
To answer your question, I've also been admitted to Northwestern, Virginia, UCLA, Duke.

Hi Michael,
Congratulations on your admissions.
I really think there is no "bad choice" between all those universities. The thing is Ithaca is far from everything and as a "ptit parigot", I am more attracted by cities...
As you obtained the CAPA in december, did you find a "collaboration" ? are you working as an intern ?
Geoff : seems your CFPA problem would be solved by passing the NY exam, what a gain of time !! (hope the french legislator will not remove the article 100 !!)
Congratulations again to all of you !!

Hello everybody,
Don't worry about Article 100 !!!
Take a look of this link : http://www.cnb.avocat.fr/VieDuConseil/VDC_viedescommissions_admission.php
Btw, did you apply to Columbia ?
I have been admitted by UCLA and Fordham but I am still awaiting news from Columbia. A long shot !!!
Bon courage.

Actually, I didn't look for a "collaboration" (= associate position for those who don't speak French ;) I'm finishing a degree at ESSEC (MS). I'm betting on the International Job Fair to get a job ...

Good Evening French LLM Community!
I'm a current Student in Cornell. I'm very glad to see that several French have made the right choice i.e Cornell. Anyway, if you have any questions regarding the life in Ithaca, please feel free to ask!!
P.S: By the way, I am also French:-)

Salut CornellBH,
Could you tell us more about your year in Ithaca (the campus life, the city, more details about the LL.M., what your future plans are, what about the international job fair ...).
Thanks !
Michael

I don't live in France and I'm not planning to. Yet, I'm going to take the NY Bar Exam and if I'm admitted at the NY Bar, I will take another exam to join the Paris Bar. Only then, if I HAVE to, will I try to get some work to in France.
