Hi, guys,
I'm from China and have worked for over five years as a patent attorney. I also passed the China Bar exam. Now I want to apply for LLM in GWU
I learned some of you would study in gwu here. Could you tell me the criteria of GWU?
by the way, I'm a girl.
thank you a lot
How can be admitted by George Washington Univ

almost all univs mention same things while talkin bout admission criterias (good grades and reccommendations n all) which is very subjective..
so at th cost of repetition let me say it again..u need good grades, good reccos, good personal statement, good extra-currilar record, some work-ex...
you see wrd 'good' is common 2 all criterias..so you need 2b a good student..
if this help (wich am quite sure of!!) then the only substitute is thorough research..check out websites of as many univs as possible n pick up hints..

Dear astroturf,
thank you very much for your kind repetition. :)))
It sounds very competitive. Do you think my background will be helpful? I recieved a bachelor degree in mechanical science and another one in ip law. I passed the bar exam and patent attorney exam. I am now a patent attorney. I have accumulated many experiences in the field of patent protection in China. I want to improve myself by taking such an ip llm.
thanks a lot

to me ur profile does look impressive for am IP LL.M...nevertheless a lot depends on how u present urself as a 'suitable candidate' to GWu for the said course..so although ur cv may b impressive u could improve ur chances of admission by working on ur personal statement and getting other documents in order..
best of luck!!
best of luck!!

To increase the likelihood of admission it is convenient to put together an incisive personal statement describing your academic and community achievements, your most cherished contributions, your family background. You should also address why you think the program is right for you, namely, how the program ties in with the economic climate in your country and what profit you can bring out of pursuing it. You should make clear to the admissions committee your grim determination to succeed in the program underpinned by your previous attainments and they should receive the impression that what they see is actually what they get. Highlighting your previous work experience or some difficult problem you've confronted that is pertinently linked with the program's objectives is particularly helpful since they'll see that your decision is staunchly founded on real-life situations and not just the result of some inane and fatuous reasons. They cherish maturity of decision pretty much.

I was admitted by George Washingto University, Indiana University School of Law Bloomington, and Northwestern University School of Law; and i've also filed for admission into Univeristy of Michigan at Ann Arbor and Columbia Law School. As yet, i haven't received an answer from these last two. If i'm turned away from the latter law schools, i think it is most likely that i will enroll Northwestern.

wow, congratulations.
I'm interested in the patent practise. john marshall, chicago-kent, gwu, fordham, if one of them could accept me.
How long did you spend in preparing the application documents?
Excuse me for my questions.

Thank you for your input! Making up my personal statement took me around two weeks. On the first week, i made a draft, which consisted of writing down any relevant thoughts i could come up with.. On the second one, i ordered the ideas, took out some elements i found redundant or unimportant, and finally i reviewed it two times so as to make sure that i didn't slip on any detail. Herein, i talked about my family background, my earned prizes during law schools, my work experience, extracurricular activitives, hobbies, people that influenced me and how they did it, my philosophy of life, my final goal after graduation and the main theme of my final dissertation while in the final law school year, among other things

inthebloom, my background is kind of similar with yours, but I am from Taiwan. I filed my application to GW in last Nov., and got my admission in two weeks. So I thought you don't have to worry too much, just send out your applicaiton materials before the deadline, and you will get good news soon!

It's nice to learn this from you.
I just finished the January Toefl and have not yet received the score.
Maybe I can take the last subway by March 1 to send out my materials.
I requested gwu to send me the application documents by mail two days ago. It said it will send them to me 4 -5 weeks. I downloaded and printed the application form. Would you please tell me any other documents needed, except those listed on the application form?

Thank you for the wish. In regards with the application materials, you don't have to await that long to fill them out, just download these documents over GWU Web-page. Also, i forewarn you that if you're interested in applying for theThomas Buergenthal Scholarships, the essay required for this aid will have to be good and ready at least 2 weeks before the application deadline, which is March the 1st.
Good Luck on your application!
