Harvard - waiting list

Two comments:
First, it is not unusual for schools to make decisions based on regions. Yale has quite a clear quota that they will no exceed from certain countries, regardless of the merit of the candidates. They justify this quota through their desire for "diversity" in the LL.M class.
Second, I would think twice before accepting Michigan if you intend to forfeit it for the sake of Harvard. I know that many schools do not look upon this favorably, and very well may share this information with Harvard. Just be careful. I think you might be able to "buy" a few extra days from Michigan. It might be best to be honest and tell them your dilemma. They are human too, and they understand that most studetns would prefer Harvard.

Don't be silly.

If Harvard make you an offer and you accept it then they can hardly change their mind can they? It's called a contract!!!!

The problem is I had to answer to Michigan before 29 March, and they granted me an extension until 11 April. I can hardly imagine they will agree to wait until May. There are also financial issues, I am waiting for Michigan to decide on my financial aid application, it will be determinant in my acceptance. And I think it's very improbable I get smth from Harvard, even if I get accepted..
Is it possible that universities share their information about who accepted/declined their offer, with other schools?

It seems to me the academic world is smaller than we think, and I think that withdrawing after you have officially committed is not an option you should count on. I am a bit confused about what you wrote regarding financial aid: Mich want you to commit BEFORE they tell you about the aid they offer? That seems strange to me. I think you can tell them that money is an issue and therefore you would like to know their offer, since it might be crucial for your decision. That will probably buy you a few extra days. Do you really want Harvard all that much? I hear from people who have attended/ attnding that it is really not all it's cracked up to be.

When and how (email, letter, do we have to call?) are they going to let us know? Mid -May is just now. Any news in this respect?

I have just learned that a friend of mine, who was also placed on the waiting list, has already been rejected. He received an ordinary mail from HLS last week. This person is from Latin America. Any other news?
