I called Harvard, they said they put me on their waiting list. Is smb in the same situation? Do you think I have still a chance to be admitted? Thanks

Hi,
I was also placed on their waiting list. I´m afraid we won´t get an answer before late summer (june-july?). I think that our chances to be admitted depend on how many admitted students withdraw their offers. Maybe we could ask in what position of the waiting list we have been placed...

Hello,
Yes, of course, you still have your chances.
I was admitted but won't go there, and I'm probably not the only one. I guess people admitted at Yale or Stanford will go there rather than at Harvard. I'm sure there will at least be 20 places free. So you still have all your chances, remain positive :).
I cross my fingers for you and hope that one of you will benefit of my place...

When you guys received the acceptance/waiting list letter?
Posted Mar 31, 2005 02:04
Silk,
I have not received any letter yet. I called Harvard on Monday and they told me I was on their waiting list.
Bitsou,
Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it.

I've also not heard from Harvard yet. Does that mean that I'm on their waiting list? I live in The Netherlands.

Bitou and gcvc, please tell why you did not choose HLS. I am now struggling to make out whether to join it or not. My another choice is Chicago.

Hello,
As far as I'm concerned, it had always been clear in my mind that I would either go to Yale or Stanford if I was lucky enough to be admitted at the one or the other.
Between Harvard and Chicago, I probably would go to Harvard, but it is true that Harvard is very big (classes of more than 100 students depending upon the course) while Chicago is small, which I prefer. It probably also depends upon the field you're interested in, but they are more or less strong in the same areas. Anyway, I would still choose Harvard I guess if I were you.
I don't know if it helps...but well...

Vidya,
I think you shoul call Harvard. They will tell you whether you have been admitted, rejected or placed on their waiting list.

Ana, have you got any news from Harvard about your position on the waiting list or when you should expect a decision?
Posted Apr 06, 2005 10:12
Got a letter from Harvard yesterday, telling I was on their wating list and that they'll let me know "as soon as a place is avaliable" and that they will be able to tell by the mid-May, if there are any spots. I was wondering whether, if smb rejects their offer, they'll wait until May or they'll notify immediately a person on their list?

Has anybody already received rejection letters or emails from Harvard?

Shou,
Harvard is great, but I know that some people choose Chicago over Harvard. It would be wise to ask them why they did so and if they are happy about their choice. I have been told by current LL.M students that in the current class there are a few people who were also admitted to Harvard but chose Chicago. If you have the list of them, you may contact them and ask about this issue, and let me know too...:)

Bitsou, thank you for telling me the reasons of your choice. I had been admitted at Yale, I would have also chosen Yale over HLS without hesitation.
Nazli, unfortunately I don't have any list of names who chose Chicago over HLS. Though, after thinking over the matter for a while, I have almost made up my decision to join HLS...

Hi there everybody. I have been informed by the HLS Graduate Program office that the decisions regarding the waiting list will be reached by mid-May. I was also told that every year around 25 applicants decide to go to Yale and Stanford and that, in addition, circa 2/3 applicants withdraw the offer for personal reasons.
So, the points to be verified remain how many people are put on the waiting list, and why dont they want to disclose the positions of each applicant within the waiting list. Any info on that?

do any of you have an estimate on how long the waiting list is at harvard? and is the list ranked so that one person who declines automatically lets in the next one in line?

Hi, everybody, here is an e-mail I got this night:
"This year there are fewer than 30 people on the waiting list, which is not ranked. In the past 5 years we have admitted anywhere between 1 to 10 people from the waiting list in a given year. The chances of a waitlisted candidate being admitted really depend on how many admitted applicants accept our offers overall, and secondarily on how many admitted applicants within a given country or region accept our offers. There is nothing specifically that you need to do right now, but you are of course welcome and encouraged to send us any updates on your academic and/or professional activities.
We will notify you as soon as we get a better sense of how many admitted applicants have accepted our offers; we expect that will happen in mid- to late May."
It depends on your region?? So they have regional quotas or smth??? And waiting until the mid-May... I have to give my answer to Michigan before Monday....
Someone has more information or some interesting thoughts?

Maria, I am on the Yale waiting list so I know how you feel.
However, I think you just have to get on with your second choice and, if HLS does come through, be willing to sacrifice any deposit you've given to another University.
What is the deposit at Michigan? SUrely it's worth $500 or so to give up Michigan and go to Harvard if they do offer you a place? I'd happily pay an extra $500 to go to Harvard.
