Baby_Luck,

What field of law do you intend to specialize in? Did you apply in American or European law schools?

I applied only to GULC; I did not apply to any other school in the US or Europe...

I am undecided what LLM specialization exactly I want to have. In Russia, my specialization is national litigation and civil law; and I am thinking about changing my specialization a bit.

Now I am waiting for a decsion of GULC, hope I will be in.

Georgetown Law Center has good specialized courses in international and comparative law, securities and financial regulation and intellectual property law. They also have a popular continuing legal education program with a wide selection of "institutes" including civil litigation and trial advocacy.

I would think with the resources of Georgetown, they would also have a strong program in litigation (such as in civil procedure, or in a trial advocacy workshop). GULC is in another part of Washington, D.C. separate from the main campus of Georgetown University.

I visited GULC during a trip to Washington, D.C. a few years back and was impressed by the professional environment of the law school. They have an excellent faculty, and perhaps it would be a good idea for you to study the different specializations of the faculty (the professors are leading experts in their chosen field of law) and evaluate which comes closest to your career objectives. I attended a lecture of Georgetown Law Professor Julie Cohen in Cambridge, Massachusetts during that visit to the eastern United States. Professor Cohen is an expert in intellectual property law. In that lecture, she discussed copyright and privacy issues in cyberspace.

You will have the opportunity to widen your expertise through the Georgetown Continuing Legal Education program during, or after, your LLM year. Georgetown Law alumni are given a courtesy discount on the registration fee to be paid to these continuing legal education 'institutes" (essentially for American lawyers to satisfy CLE requirements, but a number of foreign lawyers likewise attend).

OpinioJuris,
Thanks!

I have no doubts that GULC is a nice place to further learn or learn something new. I think I am interested in securities and corporate law.
I am waiting for the decision now... I hope I will be in. Thanks!!
