Georgetown Early Decision 2016-17

Lawbug2015

Hi! I received my admission email and letter two weeks ago.
I have just checked my "Applicant Online Status" and it says only "Application Complete - 10/30/2015".

Gtown is a great school in all aspects. From now on I will wait for the decisions about scholarships. I´ve sent them an email a week ago regarding financial aid and here's their answer:

"The scholarship committee will begin considering all admitted applicants for a scholarship based on your initial application beginning in late January and will make offers on a rolling basis."

Does anyone know if Gtown gives full tuition waivers or anything close to that? Washington is a really nice place to live, but it is way expensive though.

Cheers!

Hi,

I just received my accceptance email on Nov 20th. Georgetown's website states that "If you're an international student, options for financing your education at Georgetown Law are limited to commercial loans". On the other hand, there is a financial aid application for which international students shall complete sections 1-5, but you algo received an email saying that all admitted students are considered for financial aid.

You seem to be up to date with Gtown's financial aid rules. Is there financial aid apart from commercial loans, do you need to fill an application, are we all considered? Could you help clearing this up?

@gdeschamps: Can you refer the link where it says that international students can only avail commercial loans? Also, aren't the steps 1 to 5 applicable only to US residents?

They do give certain waivers because the aid page says this:
"Georgetown Law awards a small number of partial scholarships to foreign-educated lawyers who apply to the LL.M. Degree Programs. To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship, applicants must submit a completed LL.M. application no later than the February 12, 2016regular deadline (although awards may be made on a rolling basis). On the basis of students' LL.M. applications, Georgetown Law will select a group of applicants and invite them to apply for the scholarships."

Hi there, At the website of Georgetown is mentioned that the Association of Securities and Exchange Commission Alumni (ASECA) grants a scholarship in the amount of $5,000. The application deadline was Friday, October 24, 2014. Is this renewed each year at the same time?

What you mean about renewed every year? If they provide the scholarship every single year or if they grant you another 5K during your second semester?

Does anyone know if Georgetown offer conditional acceptance? I received my admission letter two weeks ago together with an addendum saying that I didn't meet the speaking section requirement in the TOEFL test and that I should keep on working on my English and consider attending the LLM Summer Program. These seem to be just suggestions and the addendum's language doesn't suggest in any way that they are conditions in order for me to be admitted. Can anyone provide information?

Yes, there might be someone able to provide such information. The Georgetown graduate admissions office...:)

I got the offer on Nov. 20, but I still do not receive the package. Unlike other schools, the package sent by Georgetown seems unable to track.

Hey! I received my email on the 20th of Nov and my letter came last Monday. It also depends on where you are.

I wrote to them and asked for a tracking id and they provided me with a FedEx tracking number. You should do the same, takes off the pressure!

Cheers!

"Does Georgetown Law offer "conditional admission" to its Graduate Programs?

No. Georgetown Law does not offer "conditional admission" to its Graduate programs. Students must meet the prerequisites for admission (e.g., obtaining the required minimum TOEFL score for foreign students, or completing a course in basic Federal Income Tax for U.S. students applying to the LL.M. in Taxation program) before an offer of admission can be extended."

A quick research wouldn't hurt. ;)

So if you got the offer you have the spot!

Thank you all for your replies. I wrote to GULC a few days ago, they took a while but I finally received my answer: there are, in fact, no conditional admissions. I did do my research and read what you posted beforehand but I was a bit confused because the website specifically states that the minimum TOEFL scores must be met.

Is any of you already certain that you're attending Georgetown?

Not sure yet. But I'm very inclined to accept Georgetown's offer. Gtown seems to be an amazing school. Specially when it comes to taxes. Waiting on the Graduate Tax Scholar program to make my decision though. Let's see what happens.

Well, I am in! Thank you :)
But they did not mention anything about financial aid. How does it work?

In as well, no info regarding financial aid yet!

Congrats to you all folks!

Financial aids will be informed in the end of february - early march... At least for those who applied for the taxation LLM.
