Fordham Vs Cardozo in Intellectual Property

jebwst

Hello everyone,
I have the luck and privilege of being admitted in fordham and Cardozo's llm in Intellectual property law, but I have a hard time seeing all the pro's and cons.

according to us news fordham is in 30 position but 18th in IP, while Cardozo is 49 in general but 6th in IP. both cost roughly the same amount, both are in hip NY location and have high bar acceptance amongst their LLm students.

what would you say?

Hello.

Well, if it helps you in any way, I faced the same doubts a few weeks ago. I chose Fordham over Cadozo for a number of reasons: i) as you already know, nationwide Fordham's reputation is in better position that Cardozo's; ii) I asked several people for advice, most of them new yorkers, and all of them indicated that Fordham was the way to go; iii) If you intend to take the bar exam, they have special courses designed for foreign trained attorneys, in order for you to gain insight of US Legal system.

In addition, I read somewhere that it is important to take into account the general ranking of the university, as it will open doors for you immediately. However, I think you should also take into consideration the reputation of the school in your own country.

In my personal experience, Fordham staff has been very responsive to every question I have had so far. I also applied to GW Law, but I'm pretty much decided to go to FLS.

good luck with your decision!

thx for the quick reply!

I see what you mean. In general and in any country and for the few years to come fordham is still "above cardozo" regarding general "ranking" and especially reputation. Even if the ideal location of cardozo can help seduce many an unbeliever.

but considering the name Cardozo has in the field, its well known publication and moot on IP and the disclaimer on the website listing several tempting internship alumni had during their llm, i sill sway back and forth between the two.

thx again for the reply, especially considering we might be in the same class next year if we both choose fordham!

Totally agree with Cardozo for IP matters! I don't think that the reputation of Cardozo is worse than of Fordham. Even if you take the general ranking...if you look at the overall score the difference (62 for Fordham and 54 for Cardozo) is very low. The acceptance rate is as well almost equal. Lastly, job perspective should not matter at the moment maybe unless you graduate summa cum laude from Harvard etc.

So, if you are really into IP or dispute resolution, Cardozo might be the better choice for you!

I have the same problem! I've been admitted to both Cardozo and Fordham but I don't know which one is better.
The 2010 Law School ranking just came out... Cardozo is not in the list for the 10 best Intelectual property schools... http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-law-schools/intellectual-property-law
I went to the Cardozo open house and it was amazing, the faculty, the staff, so friendly and available. I met everyone and I really love it. I think the IP in Cardozo has still a good reputation and they gave me a scholarship. Help!!!

If they gave you a scholarship, I don't really think you need to think about it anymore. Take it!!! but I really like Fordham... :)
