Dual-qualified lawyer seeking US Qualification

Hi All,
I am a senior corporate lawyer (10 years+) with stints in India, Singapore and London. I am UK qualified (QLTT) and India-qualified and have worked abroad for the last 6 years with local and international law-firms.
Am considering the US LLM + NY Bar or potentially just the California Bar (if I am eligible) after which I hope to work in the US for a few years.
Part of the attraction for me to do this is my desire to work in Biglaw in the US (80 out of 100 biggest firms in the Global 100 is headquartered in the US) and add a new dimension to my current cross-border corporate practice. I know it will be a challenge, and involve significant direct and opportunity costs. However I am looking at this paying dividends 5-10 years down the line with US firms that wish to set up Asia offices.
I wanted to check on this forum if anyone has or knows anyone who has done this before, and what was his /her experience. I am particularly interested in how easy was it to secure jobs in large NY/LA firms and negotiate an appropriate salary /title.
Thanks, all!

Thanks, Terkiana. Your post is very encouraging.
Of course, the trouble with the US job market for foreign-qualified lawyers is that timing is certainly critical. If you cant time the market, then you really have to hope that you can stand out of the crowd and have a compelling story to tell.
Do you know if legal recruiters in the US are a good bet in getting one a good role, or is it best to apply direct to the firms? I am not looking at a newly-qualified /1st year role, so that is the challenge for me, even if the market is great.
Thanks, again.

Hey Terkiana,

Thanks for posting such valuable information and experience here. What do you think are the chances of getting a job after LLM in US if you already are admitted in CA bar. Does it make your profile any better?

Thanks!
