criminal record

danchan

hi all

I would like to apply JD(maybe LLM),

but there is a problem I am worried about.

That is I have criminal record about car accident

nobody died,serious injury, just scratch..

the court decision is one month detention but convert imprisonment into fine 1000USD

does the criminal record play vital role of the admission???

or it will give the Dean's office bad image???

thanks

Hello danchan, I suppose it really depends on the University and country were you are applying. Although there is a high amount of Universities collecting information on criminal history in the US it may be less common in Europe. Additionally, Universities look at the serioussness of the event and if offences involve violence. It is mainly for protection.
Unfortunately, studies have shown that it is less likely, that applicants are invited for an interview or complete the application process if they have a criminal record.
By the way City University of New York do not ask applicants about their criminal histories.
I wish you good luck!
