Hi,
Does anyone have any advice on how to convert my GPA to the US system for admission purposes?
My Australian GPA is 5.324 which is second class honours. Would this be enough for Harvard, NYU or Stanford?
I am interested in doing an IP LLM......

Hi Gizmo,
I am Australian too - none of the applications ask for a converted GPA, so just put it down as it is out of 7 (they ask for the range). A simply way to convert is to divide your score out of the maximum mark (so 5.2/7) and multiply the result by 4 (for the 4 point scale). The only warning with this is that Australian grades are significantly deflated by US standards (for example my friend topped our uni with an average of 76 and that is low by US standards). So liniar conversion doesn't really work - my advice would be to stick with your current scale. The unis have plenty of Aussie applicants and know how to read Australian grades.

Thanks for your reply that is really helpful. I wasn't converting for application purposes just to know where I stand really.
Where are you applying? I'm wanting to do IP? do you know of any universities that particularly like Australian applicants?
What do you think the job prospects are.... from some of the posts on here they sound pretty bleak? But I really want to work in New York....and would be happy with a mid size firm.
Are you in the States at the moment? I am wanting to find paralegal work but am finding it difficult?
Regards,
G
