Columbia - Waiting List

dbk

Hey,

Is anyone on Columbia's waiting list? I was put on this list yesterday one hour after I asked for an expedite decision...

Does anyone have intel on the chances to get in?

Anyway, I am not sure to remain on it as I guess it could be a dramatically long wait!

the waiting list chances are pretty good (cause lots of people dont like it). I would say around 80% get in.

Has anybody been waitlisted while not asking for an expedite decision?

@ dbk, only one hour after requesting for an expedite decision!? Strange...

Yeah, firstly they wold that they would try to expedite... and one hour later: waitlisted! I think they did not want to take a final decision.

I think the chances to get in via the waitlist at places such as CLS, Harvard, Stanford, Yale are pretty low actually as not many people reject their offers. I understand at CLS it's approximately 60- 100 people they put on the waitlist. So, a few, let's say 5-15, will make it via the waitlist at Columbia. This is a pretty low percentage.

My guess would be that this isn't as true for CLS as it is for Yale, Harvard and Stanford.

I doubt there are only 5-15 people withdrawing from Columbia after they've heard of the top 3, not to mention those who choose another school (NYU, Chcago, UPenn, Berkeley, etc.) or those who simply decide not to attend any LLM for whatever reason (funding, etc.).

have people started getting waitlist mails already? (this is other than being put on waitlist after asking for an expedited decision...) I haven't got an acceptance or reject from CLS yet. Does it mean there is still chance? Do they send rejects at all?

I don't know if it's different... but I know someone was waitlisted without asking for an expedite decision.

I guess there should be some admissions from now to the beginning of April.

According to CLS email that I got saying that my application is complete, the information on admission/rejection/placement on the waitlist will be send out to candidates through the end of April

and what about early application deferred to regular?
do you think that we are also waitlisted?

It's possible, but I'm not sure. I haven't got any replies from CLS yet though a friend of mine was rejected a month ago.

I know some "friends" from my country (France) were rejected a while back as well. I guess the best is to not make too many assumptions and patiently wait.

You should never give up hoping. In 2010, my ex-girl friend was admitted to CLS and was scheduled to go to NYC but just a month before her travel, her ex-boy friend, i.e. me, suffered a terrible car accident and was comatosed almost all of July. Thus, she deferred her admission to 2011 and a place in the class of '11 was opened just a month before it actually started. I hope such an incident never occurs again and you get in to CLS without someone being in coma but all I want to say is you should never give up hoping as life can't be foreseen and is full of good and bad surprises. Good luck with your application. By the way, you are in a much better position than me by waiting as a waitlisted applicant as I have not heard anything from CLS as of yet but still "waiting". :)
