SMuffin and MAB79 - what were your alternatives?
Posted Apr 07, 2010 13:25
Were you deferred applicants? Did you receive the admission per e-mail?
Posted Apr 07, 2010 14:41
nope, Regular cycle...and yes via email...
My alternatives were UCLA, BU, Fordham and King's London...But I have decided to apply only to 5 schools in the U.S. and wanted to be sure that 3 are located in NYC...

Please, need some help... to which email did you send the expedite request? Did you mention that you had other offers and deadlines?

I've been admitted today! Don't know what to do because I've also been admitted to Berkeley, what do you think??? please help!!

Tough one. If you go woth the rankings (and I think most of them state the same), CLS might be slightly better than Berkeley. But nevertheless, Berkeley is one of the best schools in the U.S.
So, I'd say you should think of your goals and your attitude. Berkeley is known as the more liberal place (not only because it is located in California, but also because it has a long tradition of liberalism). Then, location might be a dominant factor. Do you want to be in NYC which is a great city but has four seasons and can be very cold in winter. Or do you think that a nice campus in northern california is rather the place to be for you (San Fran is cheaper btw).
So, I'd keep it with Frank Sinatra: "It's up to you, New York, New York!";-) But this is just for me...

@ NY... I know this might be a bit late now but I originally asked for an expedite request earlier in the season (based on a very early Duke deadline) and this request was declined (I was told to ask Duke for an extension). Later in the season (late March) I was facing several additional deadlines (including Upenn/the revised Duke date and Chicago) and so I ask again for my decision to be expedited. They replied the same day and admitted me.
So... in the event you haven't already accepted Chicago, I would advise that you contact Columbia again.
Best of luck!

CCQ, thank you. I actually already did that (contacted CLS last week) and am now waiting to hear back from them. I don't understand what's taking so long. Pls keep your fingers crossed! :-)

No worries...
I think they only wrote back to me so quickly the second time because it was 1-2 days before my other deadlines and they knew that they would be forcing my hand if they didn't. I think you said your deadline was the 15th so I would imagine you will hear any day now!
Best of luck and hope to see you at Columbia in the fall!

Yep, that is how it worked for me. I asked them 2 days before my deadline expired...and they answered within 10 hours...

I'd go with Columbia...But mainly because it has been my dream to go there...I think in most cases they are on the same level...so, it could be location, campus and maybe the Ivy League status (= long tradition of excellence) that could become relevant for you...
