Hey Everyone
Columbia's website says "Applications for the 2008-2009 academic year must be postmarked no later than December 15, 2007. Applications postmarked after this date will be returned unread. Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis, in most cases no later than late April."
I assume this means that the application materials need not reach them by the 15 December, as long as they are postmarked no later than the 15 Dec?
Does anybody disagree/agree?
Thanks
Andrea

Hi Andrea,
That is right. As long as the date stamped on the envelope says 15 December, you will be fine.
Cheers

Thanks.
Does that mean US postal stamp if it is being sent from overseas? What about if one send them by courier?

Sending a courier on the 15th is fine too...In that case your courier receipt would be proof that it was dispatched by the 15th...In fact, I sent my Columbia app two years back on the 15th itself, and it was duly considered...
You could try not to leave it to the last day though...Unexpected problems, Murphys Law and all that...:-)

I also have a question regarding the deadline...
I've just decided now to do a LLM in the US and abviously I'm having problems with the deadlines as I don't have all the documents, letters of recomendation etc ready.
Do you know whether it is possible to submit a (very) incomplete application and send the rest when available?
Many thanks

Thanks rac.
Regarding incomplete applications - I think it may be problematic to send incomplete applications. If it was just a quetsion of sending letters of recommendations, you could perhaps indicate that your referees would send these (although some schools indicate that everything must be received by the deadline or postmarked etc).
What LLMs are you looking to apply for? Georgetown closes in Feb, and some other schools also close next year.
Hope that helps,
Andrea

Would you know if it is possible to submit one transcript out of a total of two after the deadline?
I am in receipt of a mail from Columbia saying that my application pack has reached them though one of the transcripts is missing and that i should send it at the earliest. I have mailed them enquiring whether it is alright if my transcript should reach them between 25-30 December as the school from where i have to collect it is closed on account of a festival. They haven't sent me a reply. Can i go on with my optimistic presumption or do i have a reason to get worried?

When would the transcript be postmarked?
If you have done all the application stuff, and that is the last thing, you might as well just try your luck...who knows if it will be acceptable. I guess their email will confirm whether it's OK.
