Wit application forms bout 2 cum out of almost all prominent law schools in US, most of us will perhaps 4 one last time go thru our list chosen law schools n thn get ready 4 th papr wrk..
Since thers stil time 4 tht, I thot it pertinent 2 share wit u th basis on wich we shud b selectin wich law schools 2 apply..
2 begin wit, i reaffirm wat has alredy been reiterated in earlier posts, tht no ranking of law school is alone sufficient 4 us 2 decide. am sure none of us has done that also.
Apart from th usual criteria (US News rank; Ivy League or not; Location; Faculty etc) ther r a few equally important criteria..
for instance 2 determine wethr a particular law school is famous in th subject u wannna specialize in thn check wethr it publishes a special journal or has a centre dedicated 2 th study of tht field of law..
Moreover class size is also important. u dont wanna join a school wit hundreds of LL.M. students n get lost in th crowd. u r goin ther 2 learn n make a mark, n tht wud b much easier if u join a law school wit a small clas size..
Tuition n prospect of gettin a aid is nothr important factor coupld wit th application fee..if ther r 2 equally gd law schools n u hv a higher chance of gettin sum aid in 1 thn prefer tht ovr th other..
If u plan 2 stay bac in US n wrk in a law firm thn check th NALP website n c wich al law firms recruit LL.M.'s (hardly a few tho) n thn c wer thez firms r located. prefer applyin 2 thoz law schools wich r located in cities wit many law firms tht recruit LL.M.'s..tht might help u later..
if u wanna cum bac 2 ur own country n litigate n thn apply 2 prestigious law schools coz thoz r only ones ppl in ur country wil kno bout. i mean missouri-columbia is gr8 4 arbitration bt if i wanna cum bac n litigate in my country thn M-Columbia wont help me much in my practice. ppl wil jus think i am sum1 who went 2 US 4 study whereas if sum1 went 2 harvard or sumthin thn ppl wil remember him as sum1 who went 2 harvard 4 study..c th difference..
But as i hv said elsewher also, do ur research rili well, spend hours on lookin at law school websites n gatherin as much info. as u can frm othr blog sites n else..thn make an informed choice n stick by it. this wil save u any regrets later..
