Cost of living in DC is for sure higher than in Chicago. You should however check out the possibility of getting cheap student housing in DC and then compare the prices.

I agree with Hannenyh. Check out bankrate website for the cost of living calculator. You will notice that DC is considerably more expensive. While I have not lived in Chicago, as a resident in a DC suburb and an attorney working in DC, DC is a very expensive place in which to live and work. At the same time, DC has much to offer.

Thank you all. I've checked out the suggested Online Living Cost Calculator and it is awesome. Out of it, i've drawn the conclusion that housing is definitely costlier in DC than in Chicago. This just confirms the validity of the Monopoly Game in terms of Real Estate Prices. However, there are many other things considerably less expensive in DC than in Chicago, for example, food is significantly cheaper in DC than in Chicago and i guess it happens so because Pennsylvannia is nearby. Therefore, it is not that easy to determine which one is truly more expensive taking into account the big picture.
