BU VS Tulane with Scholarship

DNW

Dear Friends,

I am a lawyer from Indonesia (graduated from the University of Indonesia) and I work in a law firm specializing in oil and gas. Since there are not many Indonesian law firms that master this subject, I am planning to specialize in this subject.

I have been accepted in BU and Tulane. BU in American Law and Tulane in Energy and Environmental Law. I lived in Boston till I was 8 years old, this is why I am highly motivated to go to BU. However, I got a 25.000 USD scholarship from Tulane. This is a very important consideration for me. Also Tulane is famous for its mining law.

I need your opinions on what I should choose and consider. What is New Orleans like? Is the City nice? is it okay after Katrina? how is the quality of Tulane? I know it is very good and is in the top 50s, but it would be nice to hear some opinions. Also, are there any Indonesians in Tulane?

Thanks my friends. Your answers are highly appreciated.

Here is my 2 cents of advise. If I were you, I will go to Tulane. I also applied for LLM in Tulane (Admiralty Law) and BU (American Law) and if I was offered a scholarship of $ 35 k (lucky you) I will accept Tulane offer. I visited Tulane and New Orleans and I love the city and the university. Tulane has great reputation and it is a well known university and law school. Also the cost of living in lower in Louisiana than in Massachusett. Also, I find the cost of living in Boston very high. Finally, people in Louisiana are very friendly and the climate is so much better that the East Coast. I am sure than if you go to Tulane, you won't regret it, really. All the best to you.

Dear canada40, thank you very much for your comment. I will definitely take this in to consideration. So there is a chance I might meet you in Tulane or BU then? Where are you from?

@Nadia,

Scholarship is very crucial in any admission criteria because of the global economy downturn.However, on a second note you must look at the prospects of a LL.M. after graduation.

Boston University offers more employment prospect than Tulane.The American law is the foremost in the nation,you get to attend classes with JD's, learn the intricacies of the American legal system,which will be valuable for you when US clients want to do business in Indonesia and vice versa.You can also use the BU LL.M to segue seamlessly into the vibrant Boston legal practice. "Boston Legal"

My advise for you is to go to BU, Tulane LL.M is not on the same pedestal with BU.
