a) how use ful is LLM degree. it is very expensive and financing would be tough but how are the returns?
b) how do you short list the uni?

Im Dhiraj, I am from Chennai, i had applied to many colleges in the states and have admission to quite a few of them, I have now decide to go to the Unvi of Houston.

I am yet to receive my I20 though. I am expecting to get my I20 only by the end of March, but the Interview dates and booked upto July. My college starts on 2nd Aug

What do i do???

first thing to do is to pay the registration fees at designated HDFC branches and after getting the fee receipt, schedule an online appointment at the US embassy..there are dates available in late june currently (but u need to act with urgency now)..
after u've got the appointment then contact USEFI and explain ur problem to them and see if its possible to prepoen ur interview (many interviews are cancelled also)..it normally takes about 4 weeks to get the F-1 visa..so it should be ok if u get a late June date..but i would advise that u be in touch with USEFI..(they have professionals who can give u the best advice on Visa procedures)

last but not the least,,if you are still late in scheduling an appointment on time and think that because of Visa hassles you may not be able to join your university on time then you can apply for an 'Emergency appointment' with the US embassy..to schedule such an appointment you must contact the US embassy and prove to them that you need an out of turn interview appointment or else you will not be able to attend your university on time (the I-20 form of your university mentions the start date of the program)..but this is the last option..

Thanks for the advice. I have paid my fee in the HDFC office, they have asked me to go online to www.vfs-usa.com and fix myself an interview date.

What has happened now is that at that site i am unable to fix an appointment date without an I20. The forms to be filled out ask information about the SEVIS fee and I20 specific infromation.

Thus if there is some way through which i can schedule an interview without an I20, please let me know.

I ask you this as i contacted the vfs people and they told me that i require an I20 to schedule an appointment
