kuman99,
Are you going to take the ny bar this year? Do you think it's possible to get good job in DC just with a LLM? How did you get your internship?
I guess it's just better to take the ny bar exam and then try to find a job in nyc.

First, let me clearify that I am just finishing up my first semester at AU. AU has one of the largest course selections in the international law field. The professors, facilities, and students here are good. It is a good place to study. Second, you should know that I have a USA JD and have been a lawyer for last 10 years. I am trying to refocus my career from criminal defense to international business transactions and work for a large firm. I would not have a prayer if I did not get the LL.M. Do I think I will be successful at being hired by a large firm? I think I have a reasonably good shot but I will not know until I do it. I do plan to work in Asia and not in USA. It is just my personal preference. I do plan to eventually come back to the USA. I will say more later.

I'm a lawyer from Asia, could you tell me why do you plan to work in Asia after LL.M.,but not in USA?

Hi! I just got my acceptance to the American LLM program. I have a passion for human rights law. For those who are in or have completed the program, what kinds of jobs and employment opportunities are there in human rights law. This is something that I really want to do, but it is a huge investment, and I want to be able to work after. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I became very interested in AU WCL LLM program after reading your postings. Thank you vrey much for all!!!
I was wondering if you can suggest me any application tips. I mean, I have good international law background, mainly focusing on public international law. But i am also interested in inter. business law. there are some reasons for that. would you suggest me to emphasize my assests in this sphere and continue with public international law or, alternatively, would it be wise to switch to int. bus. law???
and in general do you think that you made a good choice in selevting AU.
little bit about myself, I am a prospective applicant from Uzbekistan. (any students from my country at AU???) and have BA in international law and MA in Political Science. I have worked for several international organizations. Now, since i moved to North America, I want to increase my employment possibilities by getting an LLM. I can speak seven languages, 3 of them being official UN languages.:):)
I would be very thankful if you could help me to develop an application strategy for the AU.
Thank you.

Hi everybody,
This is Kuman99. I posted inquiries previously before I started school at WCL AU ILSP (LL.M.) . One of my questions previously was, since I was a domestic LL.M. with no big firm experience, would I be employable in a big firm after the LL.M. Well, I'm about in middle of the semester at WCL and WCL better than expected. The school is very strong in international law and there are many networking opportunies through seminars and panels almost every week. I got at intership at a prestigious law firm in Asia and I will be interning there for the summer which does not automatically translate into a job but it'll certainly help. Professors are nearly all very good as well and, most importantly, the people at WCL must be one of the most friendliest around. Overall a good place to study and definitely not a waste of time if you apply yourself.

There was a women from Uzbek in my program at WCL and she got a good job with a large American law firm. I think lawyers who can speak Russian and Uzbek are in demand. I myself and recently (Dec. 2006) graduated. I got a job at a prestigious large law firm in Asia. Good luck.
