Acceptance Notice from NYU

North450

Hi all,

Got a decision notification email from NYU just now and went ahead and found out that I was admitted to the dual program in Singapore or NYU@NUS. Need to give an answer by February 13, 2009.

Am wondering if anyone else got their admission notice today or this week as I noticed some were notified as early as two weeks ago. Additionally, wanted to know for those accepted, whether scholarship awards were also mentioned in the acceptance letter. On my letter there is no mentioning of scholarship so I am assuming I did not qualified for one. Anyone?

Hi North450

I have not applied to NYU@NUS, but only to NYU@NYC, and havent heard anything.

Might I ask you if you applied only to NYU@NUS?

Cheers

Hi Jenny,

No, I applied to study at both campus, but the acceptance notice only addresses NYU@NUS. I immediately emailed NYU and will let you know as soon as I get a response from them about whether my NYU@NYU bid had been rejected.

Thanks, Terra. I am from Canada and went to school in Toronto. I submitted my application (for both NYU@NUS and NYU@NYU) in mid-November.

Congrats Brighest B and North450!
I didnt applied to NYU@NUS, but I have heard that is a very good program, with a lot of perspective, since gives you the best of the US and Asian traditions...

Because many reasons (personal reasons among other), I want to study in US, but, I think that that program (and some UK programs) are equally good or even better than the US programs.

Congrats again.

Thanks, Jenny 1980 and Brightest B.

Brightest B., I am not going to accept the offer to study at NYU@NUS because I did not get a scholarship. I believe that the first wave of acceptance notices given out by NYU for the Singapore Dual Program came with a scholarship. My acceptance offer was among the second wave sent out by NYU.

Unfortunately, I did not get a scholarship and I cannot afford the estimated $60,000 US tuition that we must dish out in order to study at NUS. I am currently working as a New York State licensed attorney in NYC and the decision to go study for the LLM in Singapore means the tuition and the opportunity cost ( foregoing a year's worth of salary) is too much for me at this time.

I am going to seek a deferral for next year but I really doubt that I will want to spend that much money to put myself in a position to come back to NYC and convey to NYC firms that the Dual Degree program deserves the same respect as a LLm in taxation law from NYC.

The only reason why NYU@NUS would be viable as an option in my opinion is if that decision is subsidized by a scholarship of $35,000 US. If not, then I run the risk of gambling too much money for a degree which might not be as marketable as a taxation law degree.

Anyhow, good luck in Singapore.

dear everybody,
I also got admission to NYU@NUS without scholarship. And I was waitlisted by Chicago. Dunno how to choose yet. Is there still a chance to get any financial aid by NYU? I think I will go to NYU if I get some kind of aid. Otherwise I will go for Chicago.
