Hi~ to everyone!
I am a Chinese fellow. In my plan, UIUC is my dream, although the high expenditure is hard to afford.
I have received the admission letter yesterday. But there is a question. According to the letter, i am enrolled in the 2011-2012 class of the University of Illinois Master of Laws program. but, i found that, according to the words on its home-page, it may spend 2-3 years studying the llm program.
am i wrong? as i heard that the llm program was usually within 1 year. I am confusing.
waitting for answering...

hi
I do not know the exactly website that you mentioned. However, I think it means the max duration for you to study in the program. You can read the usb material which UIUC sent to you.

Hi
I am the current student in the UIUC LLM program and its surely the one year program, the school basically will not let you study more than one year becuase I asked this before I came. :p
It is a great experience to spend a year here, hope you like it! Feel free to ask me questions.
Good luck!

I have similar questions too.
And, i notice that, the letter i received is an admission letter, is that any difference from the "offer"? or, would an offer be sent to me right after i pay the deposit?
thank you very much.

Dear dear,
If you talk about studying experience, it is wonderful. This is definitely an academic institution for law scholarship as well as law job market. That lots of top-notch professors here and open-door policy to professors kicks in my list when I make my choice.
For living, it depends. I really do not know what do you want for your living standard and your standard for neighbors. Maybe you can be more specific on your issue.
As for job placement, the international office will help students to have some interviews. However, if your goal for llm is to stay in the States, I am sure I am not the only one in this board to say that it is really hard to get a real job in legal field. It also depends on your nationality.
Of course, there are still some students find their way working as an intern. It is not just a few words that I can explain totally or include in all circumstances. Sorry.

Thank you for your compliment. I am just trying to help my peers because I do want to share my good experience here with the world. Btw, I am still a student at UIUC pursuing a higher degree. I wish people or peers who come here really feel the same way as I do.
As for your question 1, I would recommend you not stay in the school dorm. I'm sorry but I have no knowledge of hostels in the Urbana-Champaign area. Living within the campus, you have much more choices, and enjoy real students' life with people from all over the world. Living in dorm will constrain you that opportunity to limited neighbor. In my thoughts, the only benefit to living in dorm is the transportation to and from the dorms via the public transportation system. University provides free bus for us back and forth in and out of campus. It also takes you to shopping mall, and Wal-mart, etc. It is very convenient, especially when it is snowing. But I prefer to live not in dorm. Urbana-Champaign is full of apartments for students. You can choose to live alone or with one or more roommates to split the expense. The choice is completely yours.
Question 2: Hostels, if they exist in Urbana-Champaign, are like cheap hotels, you can come and go as you please. As for the University dorms, You can terminate the contract at anytime to my knowledge.
As for question 3, you may need to ask Law School Admission international office, Christine Renshaw.
As for question 4, for para-legal job, I know some of my classmates find their para-legal job in N.Y. law firms, and Chicago. But, most of my classmates went back to their home countries to work. As far as I know, they all found jobs that are quite good, which, to my understanding, the LL.M. paid off for them..
Welcome you to ask more questions..

I want to correct about the dorm part, what applicant of law said was not all correct. I live in graduate dorm myself, its very convenient for me, knowling people from around the world in fact is depend on yourself that whether you are dare to talk to your neighbor or join the activities which dorm held for you. There are activities almost every week and will have people cleaning your bathroom and sink every week. The disadvantage of dorm is it doesnt have living room since its a dorm, its more expensive than living off campus and you cannot have your own kitchen (but for me is fine). Everything that you need are in walking distance if you live in dorm (but ya not wal-mart or some big mall).

Hi~
As graduate student we can freely choose our meal plan, and the least meal plan we can choose is 6 meals per week. It means that you can have 6 meals in a week no matter breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is not accumulate that the 6 meals will start each week that if you only have 5 meals this week, you will still have 6 for the next week.
The credit is like money becuase you can also choose your meal plan not only including your meal but for the "credits" you can use in certain coffee shop (law students will not use this I think lol)
If you will not cook often and will eat in the dining hall then it will be cheaper if you choose the meal plan. I did not have meal plan becuase I am lazy to walk across the street. lol
Hope I did answer you question. :)

I also want to make some corrections.
If you live in some dorm, they are extremely small, and very inconvenient. But if you live in Ochard Down, you have much bigger space without meal plan. therefore, it depends. We cannot generalize all the dorms by just one experience. Some of my colleges regreted living in such small dorm.
You need to ckeck more information with international office.

hi applicant of law
i checked a bout the three university apartments namely ashton woods, orchard downs and goodwin -green...
tell me about the university apartment lease agreement, did you or did you not sign the lease agreement over the internet or you went down there by yourself and checked out each of them.
I saw their videos, furnished/unfurnished they seem nice and comfortable, so what do you suggest should i sign the lease over the internet?
Also, how many classes for LLM are scheduled each day? when do we get off from the day..let me know.
Thanks

I would like to answer your first question.
LLM classes are scheduled with JD classes everyday, except introduction to US legal system class, wich is only for LLM.
Therefore, you definitely would be shocked when the law school class starts. Professors treat you the same with the JD students, which means they will call on you in front of everyone. Also, if they ask experiences from other countries, foreign LLM are of course the perfect candidate. Except those classess that have prerequirement, you may take courses you desire to take unless some classes are all booked.
I could not really answer when the class get off everyday. A few classes are open for night, but not many. Most end up at pm 6:15. Afew last till pm 7:00.
I do not know whether I answer your question fully already.
Hopefully, I did.
