As far i have understood the procedure to work as a lawyer in uk it includes one year course n then the LPC, i wanted to know if this is the case for all the jobs? as in jobs like becoming a legal researcher and not a practitioner, do we have to go through the same procedure then as well??

The route for becoming a solicitor/barrister is qualifying law degree or GDL (1 year), plus vocational course plus on the job training. A legal researcher is not a regulated profession therefore I cannot see why the vocational training element would be necessary. I assume some knowledge of law and legal systems would be required as a matter of practice if not formal educational requirement. If you subsequently wanted to become a practising solicitor or barrister, you would have to look at the matter again. I also think that calling yourself a researcher and then trying to advise clients would be problematic for the firm employing you in regulatory and insurance terms.

hey thank you lmwoods.. I just wanted a clear picture as to what are the openings in UK after doing an LLM, ofcourse i don't intend to become a legal researcher, just out of curiosity wanted to find out. So basically, to get a proper job after an LLM is to go the LPC way for an year if at all i want to work in the UK?

If you are really luking for a job here in london then you need to think in advance i.e not to wait until you get admission for llm or to until you clear the course. I assume that you are an indian qualified lawyer so your ideal route is to appear for QLTS and to get into appropriate training contracts. To get into training contract you need to really advance your plans, because most of the top tier firm recruit their trainee solcitor two years in advance. so i hope this answer your question.. do well..

You have two options (if you're not qualified):

LLM in UK, GDL, LPC, two year training contract = 5 years to qualification (or knock off the LLM as it's unnecessary).

Or,

Two-year accelerated LLB, plus LPC, two year training contract.
