did someone then submit their cv as well, though unsolicited?

I am actually in the same situation, with ok grades, but highlights occurred rather out of the lecture hall ;)

it's a clichee indeed that the americans look at the extracurricular activities more than their counterparts in the old world. I don't know whether that's still the case.

Frontal has a good point, to apply for gates makes much sense, unfortunately however, I was too involved in an extracurricular activity, that writing another personal statement was simply too much. ..something that I regret now

and for something completely different, which colleges did you indicate as preferences and why so?

I chose Trinity Hall and Peterhouse, do not know really why though, except that they're supposed to be pretty, with some tradition in law and not too large or poor, endowment-wise that is

I don't know about grades v other achievements. From last year it seemed grades carried the heaviest weight - with some very accomplished applicants with a lot of legal work experience and articles not getting in over new llb graduates. Maybe because a) it's much easier to quantify grades over activities, and b) because a first in law is very difficult to achieve. Or, whatever the grading system is in any particular country, it's well known that law is an easy subject to achieve a degree, but very difficult to do well in. Finally c) this is an academic program that requires applicants to be able to perform well in that environment. Work experience on cvs and moot court competitions are practical, not academic.

I guess they look at grades in the first stage, and the ones highly above average get an offer quite early. Those with credentials that are not primarily reflected in the grades might be considered afterwards as it's not an easy and quick task to weight these activities.

Regarding colleges, mine were Trinity and Darwin.

Corpus Christi here, too!

Congrats to all those who received offers. :) Mainly for the MCL this week, wasn't it?

I agree with psyfy. And that explains why the process takes so long. If ONLY grades were relevant all decisions would already be made at this time
Concerning Colleges I chose Gonville and Caius.

I understand that MCL will only enrol about 25 to 30 students...and on this thread, there are already 5 to 6 people who have received offers...that means there will only be very few places left...

To those would-be MCL students: what are the things that you think MCL can offer that LLM, BCL etc cannot? For one thing, there will be exams at the end of each term, instead of at the end of the year, right? :-)

Rivercam, i believe the MCL has modules which are unavailable to the LLM students; but i think the competition for the MCL course would be tougher in lieu of its smaller pioneering size.

Personally, i applied for the LLM instead of the MCL because i felt that being a fresh LLB graduate would place me below the watermark in MCL classes. I am also awaiting BPTC application results and may have to defer either the LLM or BPTC if granted both. Does anybody know if a BPTC place can be deferred by a year?

Any more news on LLM offers? Is it just me or does it seem like the majority of people on here have not heard either way regarding LLM?

BTW my college choice was Gonville & Caius.

I also received a conditional offer for the MCL by email on Friday (17 February). However, my self-service account still says "The degree committee is satisfied with your application. However, your offer has not yet been approved" Good luck to everyone who is still waiting.

Got into the LL.M.! :-D

An offer arrived today per e-mail on 17:10 (CET) from Ms. Wade, saying that I was admitted and that I will get the formal offer "in the next few weeks".

Yay!

Thank you guys. I am sure your offers are just a matter of time.

For me a though decision lies ahead. I today also got a formal offer from NYU@NUS, including a 35k award. As this program starts in May already, I have to answer NLT 2 March. Though one...

Congrats Frontal! Having had my first degree from NUS- The NYU@NUS program is actually quite a big deal with exposure to, as I understand, NY, Shanghai and Singapore- quite a back-breaking 10 months or so, at the end of which you get to sit the NY Bar Exam and be dual qualified.. And with a 35k award, I'd pick it up in a jiffy!! Singapore's such a wonderful place to experience living in Asia :) Good luck to you on that decision
